2014 Scion FR-S review

1. Punchy and fuel-sipping performance 

Every 2014 FR-S has a stout 2.0L engine under the hood, well-balanced between outright performance and everyday versatility. The engine features a unique horizontally-opposed four-cylinder ‘boxer’ configuration and produces a strong 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Paired with the standard six-speed manual transmission, this combination can take the 2014 FR-S from zero to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds, while also managing to achieve an EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined and 30 mpg on the highway. 

2. Dynamic handling and agility 

The 2014 FR-S matches that spritely engine with an equally lightweight and agile chassis for an exciting driving experience every time you get behind the wheel. Sharp steering, impressive balance, and rear-wheel-drive, all combine to make the 2014 FR-S an absolute joy in the turns. You’ll love cruising the highway in this car, but turn off the highway and take the back roads home and you’ll love it even more.  

3. Standard manual transmission 

Just to top off the theme of pure driving pleasure, the 2014 Scion FR-S also includes a six-speed manual transmission as standard. That stick shifter allows you to feel all the power and excitement in the palm of your hand, and the thrill of matching the downshifts and upshifts for the perfect revs is unparalleled. Should you prefer, there is also an automatic transmission available, which comes with automatic rev-matching on the downshifts as well as paddle shifters on the steering wheel.  

4. Comfortable cabin  

Despite being a sleek two-door coupe, the 2014 FR-S still has a capacious interior for you and your passengers to enjoy. There’s seating for up to four inside, with front row seats getting 41.9 inches of legroom, and rear seats getting 29.9 inches of legroom. Just to round things off, creature comforts like air conditioning, cruise control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are all standard.
