The perpetually hot Toyota RAV4 is an even bigger hit in hybrid form. In fact, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is #1 on our Best AWD Hybrid Cars list. Engineered to go the extra mile, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's gas engine and electric motors provide plenty of punch off the line, along with long-distance cruising ability. The voluminous passenger and cargo space can deliver all your friends and all their stuff. The drive is quiet and composed, so you can actually hear a podcast or audiobook while driving. The steering is accurate, but the acceleration is where the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid shines. With a 2.5L four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors, the RAV4 Hybrid delivers 219 hp and is half a second faster from zero to 60 than the non-hybrid trims, achieving the sprint in 7.4 seconds (according to the manufacturer, when new). The engine is matched to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) at all trim levels, and electronic all-wheel drive is also standard. This setup means the RAV4 Hybrid drives like a front-wheel-drive vehicle when cruising, but instantly activates all-wheel drive when needed. If you'd like to see how it stacks up against other hybrids, check out this Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs Honda CR-V Hybrid review.
New for 2022 is the well-optioned SE trim, positioned between the base LE and mid-range XLE trims and the more techy XSE and Premium trims. The SE trim adds 18-inch multi-spoke black wheels, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, heated power mirrors with turn signals and blind-spot warning indicators, and a six-speaker stereo. The SE also adds neat small features inside, like blue stitched trim on the seats and doors, a cargo area cover, and five USB ports. Apart from the SE, all trims from XLE upward have a revised front end with stylish headlights and LED running lights. The lovely Cavalry Blue exterior color joins the lineup for 2022, which looks like a muted candy purple—but way better than that sounds. While we currently do not have many 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrids on our lots, we look forward to selling more in the future. If you love the 2022 model, you should also consider prior model years of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid with similar features.

Gone are the days of choosing between a small car for fuel economy and an SUV for space. The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid delivers both, with an impressive EPA-estimated 40 combined mpg.
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has great cargo space for a compact crossover, with 69.8 cu-ft when the rear seats are down. Sure, it'll haul groceries, but also furniture, kayaks, lumber, and other outside gear. For reference, the average refrigerator is around 25 cu-ft, meaning the RAV4 Hybrid can haul more groceries than you could ever want!
You'll love the base LE trim of the RAV4 Hybrid, which is loaded with standard comfort and tech features. Check out the 17-inch alloy wheels, 4.2-inch driver information display, driver-assistance features, and six-way adjustable driver's seat. This just goes to show that "base" doesn't need to mean basic.
Most days, you don't need AWD. And then you do. Tricky weather or slippery conditions make the RAV4 Hybrid's electronic AWD system a fantastic addition to an already great package. The system activates when needed, so snow and mud won't hold you back from getting to work anymore. The downside: No more snow days.
If you want luxury features—or you just want to treat your passengers—look to the top-of-the-line Limited trim. The exterior looks fancy, but it's the inside you'll really appreciate. With heated seats all around, leather surfaces, a larger touchscreen, and a bangin' sound system, you won't want to get out of the RAV4 Hybrid.

The 2021 and 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid seem identical at first glance, but there are small differences. The 2022 RAV4 Hybrid adds the SE trim and the bold Cavalry Blue exterior color. Additionally, look for revised headlights and wheel choices.
Both trims are well equipped but aimed at different kinds of people. The XSE has a black roof and wheels for a sporty look, while the Limited trim levels up the interior with more leather, heated and ventilated seats, and a nine-inch touchscreen. They're both great options, but which one you choose depends on your preferences.

Slide into the driver's seat of the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and you'll notice the thoroughly modern interior with an angle toward truck-inspired utility. The comfortable seats deliver an upright seating position for a commanding view of the road and all-day comfort for the longest road trips or commutes. A bright and sharp digital driver information display sits behind the steering wheel, while the center infotainment screen and AC vents have swapped their traditional places. This is smart, as you'll notice the touchscreen is now in your line of sight, while the vents are more effective at directing air to you. Silver accents highlight the modern design, and there's plenty of storage within easy reach for water bottles, umbrellas, sunglasses, and more. The Hybrid SE and higher trims have soft-touch surfaces and stitched accents for a touch of class.
Front passengers will appreciate the headroom, at 37.7 inches. Your rear passengers get even more (39.5 inches), so go ahead and rideshare for basketball players. If you get restless legs while driving for long spans, you'll love the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's impressive 41 inches of legroom, and 37.8 inches in the rear. Drivers and passengers up to 6'5" should be comfortable. Behind those rear seats, check out the 37.5 cu-ft of cargo space. Put the split-folding rear seats down, and the cargo space jumps to 69.8 cu-ft. That's the same size as an average back porch storage shed, which is plenty of room for car camping.
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid seats four adults comfortably, or five if the drive is short. The rear seats can easily adapt to children's car seats, with the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid able to take three across the rear seats. The rear seat belt buckle stalks are quite flexible, with minimum overlap for the center seat. Back seat recline levers are large and easy to manipulate one-handed, and LATCH tethers are clearly visible on the back of all three seats. Booster seats, front-facing seats, and rear-facing seats all fit rather easily, making the RAV4 Hybrid an excellent choice for growing families.
It's been a long time since hybrids were the slow cars on the road. The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has a 2.5L gas engine making 176 hp. Add the two electric motors, and you get 219 total hp. You'll notice this around town, as the gas engine and electric motors work together to push the SUV from zero to 60 in 7.4 seconds (according to the manufacturer, when new). That's over a half-second faster than the non-hybrid RAV4. Top speed is an estimated 112 mph. The standard electronic AWD is plenty capable in snow, slush, sand, or dirt and gravel roads. Keep your foot out of the throttle, and the hybrid drivetrain will reward you with an EPA-estimated 40 combined mpg.
2016-2018 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (fourth generation)
While the fourth-generation RAV4 had been on sale since 2013, Toyota launched the RAV4 Hybrid in 2016, using the extra time to get it just right. This is technically the RAV4 Hybrid's first generation, but the 2016 model shares many similarities with the 2022 model, including a 2.5L engine with two electric motors, and a focus on cargo and passenger space. Differences include the angular contemporary exterior design, a smaller touchscreen centered in the dash, 197 total system hp, and an EPA-estimated 32 combined mpg.
2019-present Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (fifth generation)
Launched with the 2019 model, the fifth-generation 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has a clean design and marks a clear break from the previous version. This is the same body style and generation detailed above for 2022, but with some differences. The 2019 RAV4 Hybrid offers slightly more cargo room (69.8 cu-ft total) from a redesigned battery pack, more power (219 hp) and mileage (up to an EPA-estimated 40 combined mpg), and more tech options.
