What customers are saying

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze stands out for its excellent fuel efficiency, solid reliability, and comfortable cabin offering ample space. Ride quality is smooth, though acceleration is modest. While technology features like Apple CarPlay are appealing, critiques include limited rear legroom and a low front design scraping driveways. Ideal for economical daily driving with family.

Really good little car.

Has all the features of cars that cost 2 to 3 times more. Gets over 40 miles to the gallon cruising at 45 mph on the open road. The engineers made good use of the interior space. It is much roomier inside than it looks. It has the same interior space as an Equinox in most dimensions except headroom. But even taller passengers fit in it just fine as even the passenger seat adjusts up and down. It even has heated rear seats, heated front seats and heated steering wheel. Driving it is good. Has ample power on acceleration. Has a comfortable ride, and feels confident during hard cornering. Never does it feel unsettled or like you're going to roll over if you take a corner to quickly or have to perform an evasive maneuver. The rear hatch area has a good removable cover and good space for groceries, tools, smaller items. The seats can be lowered and the car can hold quite more than you would expect. I've fit a bookcase in it before. It also can easily hold 3 x 5 ft sheets of cement backer board with room to spare. As a value proposition it can't be beat. The only drawbacks are that the car is no longer in production so it's possible that GM is going to GM and discontinue parts before the car reaches the end of its service life. Speaking GM being GM, true to their backwards nature, they made an incredibly well thought out and well built car and axed it. it's not like it wasn't selling either. It was Chevrolet's best selling sedan, beating the spark, sonic, impala and Malibu at over 100,000 units sold annually. But historically GM has been miserable at marketing small cars. I always see ads everywhere for Malibu, Silverado, and Equinox, but never for Cruze. Despite that it was its best selling passenger car model. So snatch one up if you can, it's a good product. Just the parent company stinks.

PROS
Cabin Noise

Quieter than some luxury cars. A lot of effort was made to isolate road noise from the cabin. I've driven many cars over my career and by far this is the quietest compact car ever built.

Fuel Economy

I've you drive very conservatively you can squeeze out 45 to 46 mpg. It gets it best mileage at around 45 mph, which happens to be the speed limits on most of the roads in my area. On the Freeway it gets 36 to 41 mpg depending on speed. Higher than 65mph the mpg drops around 36 mpg. Still not bad for a non-hybrid car. It has stop/start that works well and isn't very noticeable. it does make the car more fuel efficient.

Interior Space

It's like a tardis. It looks small outside, but inside feels like a full size car. Five average American adults can fit easily inside and drive anywhere comfortably. My model has heated rear seats and a 120v outlet for chargers. The door pockets hold quite a bit. The pull down center arm rest (when not occupied by a fifth passenger) is large and has large, sturdy, integrated cupholders. The rear legroom still amazes me how they were able to lay out the car. With the Front seats in Mid-position there is plenty of legroom. Much more than an airliner could offer you. Nearly as much as cars twice is size and 3 times the cost (Cadillac ATS/CTS of the same model year). It's a great car for families on a budget. It's got plenty of room for car seats and has the LATCH system to anchor them in properly.

CONS
Power

Power is ample. That's to be expected with a car based on economy. The only engine options are the 1.4L turbo gasoline engine and a 1.6L diesel engine. Mine has the standard 1.4L gasoline engine. At 153 BHP it's not bad. But the car is heavier than it looks at around 3300 lbs curb weight. It accelerates fine. Has enough power to pass slow vehicles. But that's it. At 8.4 seconds 0-60 it's about average, but also much better than economy cars built 15 to 40 years ago.
