About the 2018 Jeep Cherokee
Vehicle Summary
The 2018 Jeep Cherokee is a midsize crossover SUV that works well for singles, couples and small families, with moderate cargo and towing capabilities. Focused on potential off-road driving, it has several available trims, packages and options, so it's easy to match one to your specific needs, whether you just want a capable daily driver or a trail crawler. The powertrain variations can take you from an EPA estimate of 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway for the two-wheel drive 2.4L inline-four engine to 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway for the four-wheel drive Trailhawk with the 3.2L V6 engine.1 Unlike many stationary rear bench seats, the Cherokee adds the capability of reclining the 60/40-fold-flat rear seat up to six degrees of recline and can be moved forward and back for more legroom. Convenience is also abundant, as a unique in-seat hidden storage compartment maximizes your available cargo space and the available UConnect® system keeps you connected to your life.2
1Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.

FAQ
Q: What are the different types of 2018 Jeep Cherokee?
A: The 2018 Jeep Cherokee has five trim levels: Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, Overland and Trailhawk. The Latitude includes a five-inch touchscreen, two USB ports, rearview camera and Bluetooth®. Latitude Plus adds an 8.4-inch touchscreen, SiriusXM® satellite radio, proximity keyless entry and power front seats.2 Limited adds blind-spot monitor, heated seats, power liftgate and available remote start.3 Overland adds a nine-speaker Alpine® stereo and heated and ventilated front seats. The Trailhawk has taller off-road suspension, more skid plates, high- and low-range gears and is only available in four-wheel drive.
Q: How much can the 2018 Jeep Cherokee haul?
A: When properly equipped, the 2018 Jeep Cherokee is capable of hauling up to 4,500 pounds by trailer, giving you plenty of space for campers, trailers and toy haulers.4 With the rear 40/60 split flat-fold seats folded down, you'll have plenty of room for cargo as well, with 68.7 cubic feet available for stowing luggage, boxes, camping gear and groceries.
Q: Is the 2018 Jeep Cherokee a four-wheel drive vehicle?
A: Available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options, the 2018 Jeep Cherokee has a wide range of options available in off-road and four-wheel drive capability. These include Active-Drive I and Active-Drive II, along with Trail Rated Jeep Active Drive Lock, covering all the contingencies from slightly slick roads to true crawling harsh off-road conditions.
Q: How many people does the 2018 Jeep Cherokee seat?
A: As with prior model years in this generation, the 2018 Jeep Cherokee doesn't have a third-row seat, making it more limited than midsize crossover SUVs that have included this option. With two front bucket seats and a rear bench seat, the maximum number of people the Cherokee can hold is five, though its change to a midsize crossover provides plenty of room for those passengers.
2Activation with subscription required.
3Remote start functionality may require the purchase of a subscription plan and/or a compatible device like a smart phone. See the owner’s manual or manufacturer website for more information.
4Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories.
Generation Overview
When the fifth generation of the Jeep Cherokee was brought back to North America to replace the Jeep Liberty, it was reintroduced as a midsize crossover SUV. Unveiled at the 2013 New York International Auto Show, the fifth generation saw a strong upgrade in size to make space for Jeep's Renegade model. The new front-end design drew some criticism, but the new generation was such a strong hit, the manufacturer closed the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 production lines to meet the overwhelming demand for the crossover. As of the 2018 model year, the mid-generation refresh and facelift anticipated for the 2019 model.
Safety Rating
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration's independent crash tests help you make informed decisions about vehicle safety. NHTSA's 5-Star Safety Ratings give consumers insights into how vehicles perform in crash tests, with more stars equaling higher safety ratings. Here are the ratings for the 2018 Jeep Cherokee. Certain vehicles may have unrepaired safety recalls. Visit nhtsa.gov/recalls to look up a specific vehicle.
