About the 2016 Nissan Rogue
Vehicle Summary
The 2016 Nissan Rogue represented the Japanese automaker’s affordable entry into the compact SUV arena, slotted above the subcompact Juke and below the larger Murano. Designed with comfort and versatility in mind, the Rogue offers a comfortable, adaptable ride, seating for up to seven passengers and a flexible cargo system that makes good use of the SUV’s 39.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. You’ll also get plenty of tech goodies, including Siri Eyes Free and the optional Around View Monitor. The Rogue’s only engine option is a 2.5L DOHC four-cylinder engine that makes 170 hp and 175 pound-feet of torque. Power flows through a continuously variable transmission to the front wheels or all four wheels when optioned accordingly. AWD comes available on all trim levels.

Trim Configurations
S
The 2016 Nissan Rogue’s base trim comes well-equipped with cloth seats, power mirrors, hands-free Bluetooth phone system and 17-inch steel wheels with covers. You’ll also get a folding, sliding and reclining second-row bench seat as part of the EZ Flex® Seating System, along with an optional third-row seat that accommodates two additional passengers. Other features include:
- Advanced drive-assist display
- Hill start assist
- Tire pressure monitoring system
- LED daytime running lights
- AM/FM/CD radio with five-inch color display
SV
The SV trim spices up the Rogue’s appearance with the help of 17-inch alloy wheels and a touch of chrome on the exterior door handles. You’ll also get dual-zone automatic climate control and an 8-way power driver’s seat. Third-row seats come available as part of the SV Family Package. Other features include:
- Smart auto headlights
- Nissan Intelligent Key® with push button ignition
- Optional panoramic moonroof
- LED turn signal indicators on exterior mirrors
- Rear privacy glass
SL
The top-tier SL trim builds upon previous trims while adding plenty of upscale features, including leather-trimmed seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, fog lights and 18-inch alloy wheels. You’ll also get Siri Eyes Free and a nine-speaker Bose audio system. The SL also includes:
- Seven-inch touch screen display
- Nissan Voice Recognition
- Heated front seats
- Power liftgate
- Around View® Monitor
2016 Nissan Rogue vs Other Compact SUVs
- 2016 Nissan Rogue vs 2016 Jeep Compass
The Compass offers significantly better off-roading prowess thanks to the available Freedom Drive II four-wheel drive system along with two available engine choices and the option for a five-speed manual transmission. The base 2.0L DOHC four-cylinder engine, however, pales in performance due to its 158-hp rating. The Compass also struggles to achieve a combined 25 mpg while offering only 22.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second-row seats. The Compass also lacks the option for third-row seating. - 2016 Nissan Rogue vs 2016 Toyota RAV4
Despite the 2016 RAV4 offering a larger 15.9-gallon fuel tank vs. the Rogue’s 14.5-gallon tank, the Rogue offers slightly better fuel economy – 28 mpg combined vs. the RAV4’s best 26 mpg combined rating1. The RAV4 Hybrid makes up for those shortcomings by delivering an EPA-estimated 32 mpg combined1. The RAV4 also lacks the Rogue’s optional third-row seats, limiting its seating capacity to five passengers. - 2016 Nissan Rogue vs 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan
The Tiguan’s upscale interior and powerful 200-hp 2.0L TSI four-cylinder engine bests the Rogue’s accommodations. However, the Tiguan falls flat when it comes to fuel economy, offering only 23 mpg combined in FWD guise when compared to the Rogue’s 28 mpg combined rating. The Tiguan also loses out in the space race, offering only 23.8 cubic feet of cargo space and no room for third-row seats.
