2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid FAQ
The 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT). A CVT works by varying two pulleys, creating varying ratios based on the speed and acceleration demands. The result is smooth, linear acceleration.
You still need to use regular gas to refill the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid. A hybrid vehicle combines an electric motor and gas engine for improved EPA-estimated fuel economy, compared to a gas-engine-only car.
While the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE is a generously equipped mid-trim, the Titanium trim adds several tech and comfort features. If you want a driver's seat memory setting, a Sony sound system, or dual-zone automatic climate control, opt for the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid Titanium.

Interior details
Thanks to a quiet and comfortable interior, the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid is an excellent vehicle for longer road trips, commutes, and daily errands. A spacious 102 cu-ft cabin has room for up to five passengers. In addition, there's more than enough space for groceries, sports gear, or luggage in the trunk, which holds up to 12 cu-ft. The Titanium and Platinum trims upgrade to soft leather seating, aluminum accents, and a premium leather-wrapped steering wheel (Platinum).
Child seat details
You can use three positions for child seats in the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid. However, if you want to use the LATCH connection system in the middle position, you have to borrow the lower anchors from the outside seats, limiting you to only that middle seat. There are two LATCH anchors on the outer rear seats, with easy-to-access upper tether points. While the lower connection points are easy to find and locate, they can sit deeper in the seat material, making use difficult. You should be able to comfortably fit two forward- or reverse-facing child seats in the rear of the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid.
Performance
With the 2.0L four-cylinder engine and electric motor, the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid has a combined 188 hp. The eCVT reduces the feeling of gear shifting, providing a smooth ride around town and on the highway. The 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid drives and handles well, but it may not be as spirited as the gas versions due to an economy focus. But that focus results in an impressive EPA-estimated 42 mpg combined.
Year comparison
2013-2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid (second generation)
The second-generation Ford Fusion Hybrid updated and modernized the hybrid system, netting improvements in power and range over the first generation. The 2013-2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine and electric motor with a combined 188 hp. The nickel-metal battery packs were replaced with lithium-ion for this generation. A facelift in 2017 gave the Fusion Hybrid its sweeping sedan styling, also introducing the SYNC® 3 infotainment system. The S trim was dropped from the Fusion Hybrid lineup in 2019.
