Value is not the 2012 Hyundai Tucson’s only selling point. Along with good levels of standard equipment across all models, the Tucson stands out among its rivals for delivering an enjoyable drive as well as competitive EPA-estimated fuel economy. The trade-off is that the Tucson isn’t quite as spacious as many of its rivals. Other compact crossovers, such as the Chevy Equinox, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4, deliver more accommodating rear seats and a more spacious and practical trunk.
Three trim levels are offered: GL, GLS, and Limited. The GL comes with the essentials, including satellite radio, air conditioning, keyless entry, iPod®/USB interface, and privacy glass. The GLS adds some desirable equipment such as alloy wheels, an upgraded suspension, cruise control, and Bluetooth®. The Limited ups the luxury, with larger 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, and power front seats. The GL is front-wheel-drive only and uses a 165 hp 2.0-liter engine mated to a five-speed automatic. The GLS and Premium get a 176 hp 2.4-liter engine with a six-speed automatic and the choice of either front- or all-wheel drive.
