The 2023 Hyundai Tucson is a stylish and capable compact five-passenger crossover
Hyundai introduced a redesigned Tucson in 2022 with a more expressive design, interior refinements, and updated technology. Slotted between the compact Kona and the larger Santa Fe, the Tucson is the best-selling model in Hyundai’s lineup. With significant changes in the previous year, the 2023 Tucson remains primarily unchanged, with some revised feature availability as well as the addition of a new rugged-styled XRT trim. The 2023 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 10 trim levels that range from the entry-level SE to the fully loaded Limited. Three powertrains are available on the Tucson, which includes an efficient hybrid as well as a plug-in hybrid that delivers a combined 261 horsepower and an all-electric range of 33 miles. Actual mileage will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info. The compact crossover segment is very competitive, but the Tucson compares well against models like the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Nissan Rogue.

What We Like
Interior: It may look small from the outside, but the Hyundai Tucson features a roomy cabin with plenty of legroom and headroom in both the front and rear seats. The front seats offer good support with plush cushions and power lumbar adjustments. The ride is comfortable and smooth even when the road gets rough, and the cabin remains quiet even at highway speeds with minimal road and wind noise.
Technology: The available 10.25-inch display screen in the Tucson nicely integrates into the dashboard and features intuitive controls, although volume and tuning knobs would be welcome. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity is standard on all trim levels, presented nicely on the large display. The natural voice control also works well as an alternative interface to the infotainment system.
Storage: Not only does the Tucson offer up a roomy passenger compartment, but the cargo area is also quite generous. There's 38.7 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats—among the largest in the class. Folding the rear seats increases available space to almost 75 cubic feet. You'll find good storage locations for smaller items throughout the cabin, and cupholders are large enough to handle large water bottles.
What Needs Improvement
Performance: The Hyundai Tucson excels in most SUV categories but lags in the performance department. The base engine is adequate for driving around town but lacks the power to accelerate quickly if needed. During the Edmunds road test, the Tucson took 10.2 seconds to reach 60 mph, making it one of the slowest crossovers tested.
