Lots of space with some off-road ability
New for 2014, the Jeep Cherokee offers a handsome option if you’re looking for a capable SUV with plenty of space and the ability to tackle any weather. As it’s a Jeep, if you want some serious off-road ability, there’s the Trailhawk trim with Active Drive II capability to look out for. Otherwise, all models can be found with available all-wheel drive through the Active Drive I system.

5 reasons to buy the 2014 Jeep Cherokee
1. Great Trailhawk trim
If you’re looking for serious off-road capability, the Trailhawk trim is one to look out for. It features Jeep’s Active Drive II four-wheel drive, plus low-range gearing for crawling over tricky surfaces. With an elevated ground clearance of 8.7 inches, which is a full inch more than standard models, this gives you more capability to get across rough terrain. Other standard features on this trim include an 8.4-inch color touchscreen, front and rear tow hooks, and off-road fascias.
2. Great V6 engine
If you’re looking for some get-up-and-go, the optional 3.2L Pentastar® V6 engine is a great choice. It has 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. This makes it incredibly versatile for family errands, trips with friends, and cross-country vacations. If you need to tow, the Jeep Cherokee has you covered with an estimated capacity of 4,500 lbs with this engine and the available Tow Package, when properly equipped.
3. Thrifty four-cylinder
If you’re more focused on thrifty performance than all-out power, check out the standard 2.4L four-cylinder engine. It produces 184 horsepower and is good for an EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined in front-wheel drive models.
This is compared. the V6’s EPA-estimated 22 mpg combined with front-wheel drive.4. Plenty of space
As an SUV, the Jeep Cherokee has the space you’d expect. Front seat passengers are treated to 41.1 inches of legroom, while those in the rear get 40.3 inches. Cargo space is also respectable with 24.8 cu-ft behind the rear seats. That space can expand to 54.9 cu-ft with the rear seats folded, this is plenty for your DIY store haul or antique furniture find.
5. Comfortable ride
You and your passengers will appreciate the comfortable ride experience the Jeep provides. The Jeep Cherokee has compliant suspension on all trims for a comfortable ride. Look out for models with the Selec-Terrain™ system if you want to be able to select how the Jeep handles based on the road and weather conditions. Climb the trim levels to get luxury features such as the privacy glass on the Latitude trim or leather-trimmed front seats on the Limited trim.
