2018 Land Rover Discovery review

1. Potent engine choices 

The 2018 Discovery has two engines to choose from, both offering unique characteristics depending on what you are looking for. If you want balanced everyday performance, the standard supercharged 3.0L V6 packs 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. For a bit more pulling power and frugal performance, pick the optional turbocharged diesel V6 and you’ll get 254 horsepower, an impressive 443 lb-ft of torque, and an EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined.

 

2. Spacious and premium cabin 

You’ll enjoy every journey in comfort and luxury inside the 2018 Discovery’s roomy interior. You get five seats as standard, with 42.4 inches of front row legroom and 37.6 inches of second-row legroom. An optional third-row seat (standard on HSE Luxury trims) increases capacity to seven passengers, while still providing 33.5 inches of legroom for third-row occupants. Standard comfort features include leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.  

3. Plenty of cargo capacity and storage 

Even with a full house inside, the 2018 Discovery offers more than enough storage space and capacity for everyone’s luggage and items. Two gloveboxes, a console box cooler, and large front door pockets mean small item storage is covered, while in five-seat configuration, standard cargo volume behind the rear seats is 43.5 cu-ft. Additionally, loading and unloading even bulky items is an absolute breeze, thanks to a hands-free power liftgate as standard, and features like an automated seat-folding system available.  

4. Strong all-terrain and all-weather abilities 

Whether you want an ideal adventure companion, or just need a vehicle that can tackle arduous weather and road conditions, the 2018 Discovery is well-equipped for all seasons and surfaces. All-wheel-drive is standard across the range, as are off-road systems like Terrain Response^®, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist. A two-speed transfer case, electronic air suspension, and an electronic center differential are also standard on HSE Luxury trims, while Terrain Response^® 2 is optional on all models.  

5. Stacked feature list from standard 

Regardless of which trim level you go for, you’ll appreciate the sheer wealth of tech and luxury features inside every 2018 Discovery. Standard features on base SE trims include the InControl^® infotainment system with ten-inch touchscreen, a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, and a ten-speaker sound system.

For peak luxury, the top-line HSE Luxury trim lives up to its name, with premium leather upholstery and trim, heated front and second-row seats, and a premium 14-speaker Meridian^® surround-sound system.
