2017 Land Rover Discovery review

1. Stout engine choices 

The 2017 Discovery comes with a choice of two V6 engines, both offering unique characteristics. If you want a powerful all-rounder, the standard 3.0L supercharged V6 provides a potent 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. If pulling power and fuel-sipping performance is a priority, choose the optional turbocharged diesel V6 available on HSE and HSE Lux trims. Not only do you get 254 horsepower and an impressive 443 lb-ft of torque, but it can also achieve an EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined.

2. Adept off-road and in all weathers 

For adventuring across rugged terrain, or simply navigating tricky weather conditions, there’s few vehicles better suited to the task than the 2017 Discovery. All-wheel-drive is standard on all models, as is an extensive selection of all-terrain focused systems, including Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist, Gradient Release Control, and Terrain Response^®. HSE Luxury models also get electronic air suspension, an active locking rear differential, and a two-speed transfer case. 

3. Commodious cabin 

Step inside the 2017 Discovery, and you’ll be greeted with a supremely spacious cabin adorned with luxury touches and features. Standard passenger capacity on SE and HSE models is five, with 39 inches of front row legroom and 37.6 inches of second row legroom. SE/HSE trims can be equipped with three rows of seven seats, with third-row occupants getting 33.5 inches of legroom, and this layout is standard on HSE Luxury models.  

4. Generous storage and cargo capacities 

Regardless of the number of seats inside, the 2017 Discovery offers impressive storage space all round. Dual gloveboxes in the cabin take care of small item storage, while behind the rear seats on five-seater models, you get 45 cu-ft of cargo volume. Additionally, a flat floor combined with 40/20/40 split-folding second-row seats allows that cargo volume to be expanded up to a huge 82.7 cu-ft. To top it off, a hands-free power liftgate as standard makes loading and unloading a breeze. 

5. Stacked list of luxury features 

As you get comfortable inside the 2017 Discovery, you’ll have plenty of luxury and tech features to enjoy. A panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, the InControl^® infotainment system, and a ten-speaker sound system are all included as standard on SE trims. HSE models up the ante with tri-zone climate control and an enhanced Meridian^® sound system, while HSE Luxury models round things off with premium leather upholstery and trim, heated front and second-row seats, and a 14-speaker surround-sound system.
