The 2023 Lexus NX 350h pairs great fuel economy with the latest tech
If you're searching for a luxurious and fuel-efficient compact SUV, the Lexus NX 350h is a good candidate to consider. It sits between the smaller Lexus UX 250h and the larger RX 350h in Lexus' hybrid SUV lineup. The NX 350h pairs a four-cylinder gas engine and a dual-electric motor, producing 239 horsepower, and it gets an EPA-estimated 39 mpg combined. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Actual mileage will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info. Those who want more electric range might consider the plug-in hybrid NX 450h+, which we review separately.
Traditional hybrids are not very common in this class of SUV, and as a result, the NX 350h has few direct competitors. Other luxury compact SUVs, such as the BMW X3 or Mercedes-Benz GLC, tend to offer either mild hybrid options that provide less electrical assistance or plug-in hybrid variants that are usually more expensive.
Only a year removed from its debut, the 2023 Lexus NX 350h sees no major changes. Overall, the NX 350h is a good candidate for those in search of a luxurious and fuel-efficient small SUV.

What We Like
Impressive center screen: Edmunds' test vehicle was equipped with the available 14-inch touchscreen. The graphics are sharp and easy to read, and the touchscreen responds quickly. However, the software can be menu-heavy, so there may be a learning curve to contend with.
Useful driver aids: Lexus' suite of driver aids comes standard and includes lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, adaptive headlights, and blind-spot warning, plus rear cross-traffic alert. Parking sensors and an upgraded 360-degree backup camera are available on Premium and Luxury trim levels.
Easy to see out of: The NX 350h has good front and side visibility. The curved rear styling does cut into visibility a bit when you're glancing over the shoulder, but the side mirrors are big enough to help mitigate any blind spots. The backup camera's resolution is clear and the view is even better on the larger center screen.
What Needs Improvement
Cargo capacity: With 22.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats, the NX 350h doesn't offer as much cargo capacity as many of its rivals. The BMW X3, for example, offers 28.7 cubic feet and the Volvo XC60 offers 29.7 cubic feet. That said, the NX 350h's cargo area is wide and mostly flat, making it easy to load large or bulky objects.
