2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid offers exceptional fuel economy

Most years, the Toyota Camry is the best-selling passenger car in America. That's because the Camry offers longevity and a great set of features for an affordable price. That carries through to the 2018 Camry Hybrid, which boasts up to 52 mpg in combined fuel economy for the base LE trim, according to the EPA. Figures for the heavier SE and XLE trim levels are almost as good, at an EPA-estimated 46 mpg combined. Those numbers are dramatically higher than in prior years of this model. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Actual mileage will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info.

Beyond its excellent fuel economy, the 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid was the first year of a full redesign, so its looks are more up-to-date and stylish than older models. The suspension was also updated for a much smoother ride than before. Inside, the Camry Hybrid is both spacious and comfortable. The one downside to the 2018 Camry Hybrid is Toyota's Entune™ infotainment system, which can be difficult to use on a smaller seven-inch touchscreen, so it might be worth keeping an eye out for models with the available audio package, which included an eight-inch screen.

5 reasons to buy the 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid

What We Like

  • Fuel economy: It's hard to argue with up to 52 mpg combined in real-world driving, and the Toyota's 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine delivers enough power to make the Camry Hybrid fun to drive. The hybrid is quicker to highway speeds than the standard Camry, so the hybrid is the performance option.

  • Comfort and space: Especially in the upper trim levels, the Camry Hybrid is spacious and quiet inside, with comfortable seats and plenty of trunk space. There's no intrusion of the battery pack into the trunk, and the Camry's front-wheel-drive design means plenty of space in the cabin.

  • Road noise: With the hybrid system, the Camry is well insulated from road noise and feels like a more premium vehicle. Electric takeoff from stops is completely silent, and the new bodywork dramatically cuts down on wind noise.

What Needs Improvement

  • Technology: In 2018, Toyota's Entune system was not as good as those from other competing brands. The system requires drivers to use Toyota's subscription-based Scout GPS for navigation, for example. Also, Android Autoand Apple CarPlay® are not supported, although the infotainment system can be retrofitted at participating Toyota dealerships.
