The 2016 Kia Optima represents the first year of the midsize sedan’s fourth generation, offering a sizeable number of improvements over the previous generation. With a longer wheelbase and a wider body, the 2016 Optima gains more interior space and a more composed ride. The 2016 Kia Optima’s trim roster includes the base LX, LX 1.6T, EX, SX and top-of-the-line SX Limited.
You won’t lack for features by choosing the base LX trim, which includes cruise control, Bluetooth® connectivity, a six-speaker audio system with USB and auxiliary inputs, and the UVO eServices Infotainment System. The LX 1.6T adds features like push button start, while the EX adds dual-zone climate control and a host of other comfort features. Choosing the SX gives you bi-xenon HID headlights with high beam assist, 18-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler, while the SX Limited adds Nappa leather-trimmed seats.
Although you won’t find any V6 engines, the 2016 Kia Optima’s solid lineup of four-cylinder engines more than make up for the absence. The 2.4L inline-four, standard on the LX and EX trims, offers 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. Next up is the LX 1.6T’s turbocharged 1.6L inline-four, which makes up for its seven hp deficit against the 2.4L mill with a 17 hp bump in torque. Last but not least is the 2.0L turbocharged inline-four, a mainstay in the SX and SX Limited and rated at 245 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine uses a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, whereas the others rely on a six-speed automatic transmission.
