The Kia Sedona is praised for its spacious interior, versatility, and handling. Common highlights include excellent cargo room, comfortable seats, and reliability. Criticisms focus on fuel economy, cabin noise, and outdated technology. It stands out as a practical and reliable minivan for families, though some features lag behind competitors.
We were looking for a small minivan or similar. Have had 3 Dodge/Plymouth minivans in the past. Looking at the available choices and the prices, the Kia Sedona stood out as the best value. We love how it rides (went 825 miles in it one day) and it has good power.
able to fit bunkbeds including mattresses in the back with the seats folded down
Most affordable minivan I could find
Great ride for road trips
Not as good as some minivans
For a family van, or in our case, a rescue and dog transport van, the Sedona has exceeded all my expectations. Funny how the most luxurious vehicle I’ve ever owned is used mostly for transporting our canine companions. It’s ride is so smooth you’d think you were in a luxury car while acceleration is much better than expected thanks to its 265 HP 6 cylinder engine. The transmission shifts very smoothly and you hardly notice it. Amenities are abundant from back up/cross traffic assist to seat warmers that laugh at cold weather. The AC could freeze water and controls are very intuitive. On top of that, gas mileage is better than expected. We get between 22 and 26 mpg with rural driving with average speeds being about 45 mph.
Much better than expected, especially since acceleration is so strong.
It rides like a luxury car and corners smoothly with no body roll around curves. It’s an extremely stable van.
Acceleration for merging going up steep hills is very strong, and so far, the engine has never seemed to be struggling. Also it’s very quiet.
Time display is hard to see being behind your right driving forearm. The red displays wash out in bright light.
The headlights illuminate well but it seems like there is something blocking low beams about 50 yards in front of you. When going up and down country hills the beam is ofen blocked just a few yards in front of you and you cannot see very far in front of you. IMO this is the van’s worst problem. High beams are not like this but you cannot always use high beams.
Removing the second row seats is quite the pain. While you only need a T55 Torx and a Phillips screw driver, it takes a couple hours to remove them and large voids are left in the floor. I wish the could be removed and reinstalled much more easily. The rear seats fold away nicely but that second row is murder.
Best minivan we saw and test drove and we tried all the top brands, saved Kia for last because we didn't think this would be our favorite but it was by far! I'm 6'3" and have plenty of room in the front with the seat all the way back AND in the seat behind it even with the front still all the way back, plus the technology and features and safety all combine for the perfect car for us.
