Funny how the most luxurious vehicle I’ve ever owned is used mostly for transporting our canine companions. It’s ride is so smooth you’d think you were in a luxury car while acceleration is much better than expected thanks to its 265 HP 6 cylinder engine. The transmission shifts very smoothly and you hardly notice it. Amenities are abundant from back up/cross traffic assist to seat warmers that laugh at cold weather. The AC could freeze water and controls are very intuitive. On top of that, gas mileage is better than expected. We get between 22 and 26 mpg with rural driving with average speeds being about 45 mph.

Reviews for Kia Sedona

Overall Rating

4.5 out of 5 (37 reviews)

Underrated for quality and value

When I was considering a new car I knew I wanted a minivan and looked at the possible options. It turns out most are rated about the same, usually with the Honda rating the highest. However, the Kia Sedona was just a wee bit behind (rated higher in safety but lower in gas mileage and actual storage space) and, holy smokes, the price was considerably lower - about $10K lower than either a Honda or Toyota for the same car. Plus, the Kia has CarPlay (allows you to hook up your iphone to the monitor so you can use Pandora, Google maps, itunes, etc, directly from your phone. Had it for only about 4 months, but I LOVE it. Extremely comfortable.

Pros

  • Ride and Handling: Plus extraordinary seat comfort. Can drive all day without aches and pains.
  • Technology and Entertainment: CarPlay . WAY better than using a vehicles GPS and entertainment system.
  • Safety: Rated very high. Plus, visibility is superb, and the backup camera has a very wide angle - great for older people who can't spin their heads around like a top.

Cons

  • Fuel Economy: Well, I knew it wasn't going to be good, but still somewhat disappointed. I drive 'quickly,' so my around town is only around 16mpg. But highway is good, about 25.

Incredible value

For a family van, or in our case, a rescue and dog transport van, the Sedona has exceeded all my expectations.

Pros

  • Fuel Economy: Much better than expected, especially since acceleration is so strong.
  • Ride and Handling: It rides like a luxury car and corners smoothly with no body roll around curves. It’s an extremely stable van.
  • Power: Acceleration for merging going up steep hills is very strong, and so far, the engine has never seemed to be struggling. Also it’s very quiet.

Cons

  • Dashboard: Time display is hard to see being behind your right driving forearm. The red displays wash out in bright light.
  • Visibility: The headlights illuminate well but it seems like there is something blocking low beams about 50 yards in front of you. When going up and down country hills the beam is ofen blocked just a few yards in front of you and you cannot see very far in front of you. IMO this is the van’s worst problem. High beams are not like this but you cannot always use high beams.
  • Styling: Removing the second row seats is quite the pain. While you only need a T55 Torx and a Phillips screw driver, it takes a couple hours to remove them and large voids are left in the floor. I wish the could be removed and reinstalled much more easily. The rear seats fold away nicely but that second row is murder.

- Anony Mous, 2015 Kia Sedona

Second time Sedona owner and wouldn't choose another van for any reason!!!

I started with an Odyssey and traded it in for my first Kia Sedona in 2006. I drove it till it died with 170K miles. I LOVED it. When I needed a new van I went straight for my Sedona again not even considering anything else. It is the best value the best ride and gives me MORE cargo then I could imagine with any other van. I have recommended Kia Sedonas to anyone that asks. I love it and will drive it until I'm an empty nester and can downsize.

Pros

  • Value: The amount of bells/whistles on the van compared to other brands is top of the line.
  • Interior Space: I can pack my van filled with 6 teens and me as the driver and no one complains they are cramped. Even with just a family of 4 traveling we have plenty of room for everything we take, including the dog.
  • Ride and Handling: I have to remember that I'm not driving a sports car with the fabulous acceleration I get. Even my husband comments on the ride when he's behind the wheel.

Cons

  • Fuel Economy: Like all vans the total MPH on the gas tank is not great..
