2020 Audi A5 offers luxury in a variety of body styles
Luxury-car shoppers who enjoy having lots of choices will love the 2020 Audi A5. That’s because this German luxury machine can be had as a two-door coupe or convertible, as well as a four-door sedan with a convenient rear hatchback. The A5 Sportback, as Audi calls it, has the stylish exterior of its two-door siblings, yet it provides a more passenger-friendly second row and roomier trunk.
Notable updates for the 2020 model year include subtly redesigned front and rear bumpers and a more angular front grille. Audi has also made a 10.1-inch infotainment standard across the A5 range. This system is notable for its high-resolution graphics and quick response times, not to mention the simple fact it’s complemented by controls that are all within easy reach of the driver. Available in three trim levels — Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige — standard features on the A5 include Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, leather seating, heated front seats, two USB ports, and tri-zone climate control.

What We Like
Acceleration: The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder provides 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration is strong, but not to the detriment of EPA-estimated fuel economy. No matter which body style you choose, the A5 gets more than 30 mpg during highway driving.
Standard all-wheel drive: Audi’s standard all-wheel drive transforms a luxury indulgence into a practical and all-season choice. This extra grip on the road also benefits the A5’s agile handling.
Sportback trunk volume: The four-door Sportback’s trunk is much larger than what you get in many traditional compact luxury sedans. And because it’s accessed via a hatchback, the trunk opening itself is ample and handy for accommodating bulky objects.
What Needs Improvement
Cramped second row: The A5 coupe and convertible have second-row seating that can be used by adults, though you won’t want to have anyone sit there for too long. If rear seat room is a priority, the Sportback offers a more comfortable environment, minus the two-door body.
