2018 Audi A5 is fully redesigned with a new four-door Sportback model

The Audi A5 receives a complete makeover for the 2018 model year and sees a new addition to its lineup with the four-door A5 Sportback. This sleek sedan boosts the practical side of the A5, thanks to its hatchback body and a much roomier rear seat than what’s provided in the A5 coupe or convertible models. Powered by a 252-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, every version of the A5 is equipped with all-wheel drive. A six-speed manual transmission is offered in the A5 coupe, while all other models are fitted with a seven-speed automatic transmission.

With three body styles to choose from and three main trim levels — Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige — luxury-car buyers can easily prioritize what’s most important for their driving needs. The cabin of all three models benefits from Audi’s latest MMI® infotainment system, which is easy to use and has high-resolution graphics. Optional is the Virtual Cockpit, a digital gauge display that is customizable and can place information, such as map overlays and navigation commands, directly in the driver’s line of sight.

What We Like

Turbo four-cylinder: Equipped with a 252-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder and standard all-wheel drive, the A5 has abundant power and returns solid fuel economy figures.

Sportback practicality: The new A5 Sportback has a much more usable rear seat than what’s provided in the coupe and convertible. It also has roughly 21 cubic feet of cargo space, versus the 12 cubic feet and 9 cubic feet of trunk volume in the coupe and convertible, respectively.

User-friendly infotainment system: The MMI infotainment interface is attractive and easy to use. Combined with the optional Virtual Cockpit digital gauge display, the cabin of the A5 is high-tech but doesn’t overwhelm the driver with confusing controls.

What Needs Improvement

Snug rear seat: This is directed at the coupe and convertible models. Space in the second row is snug. If you plan on carrying more than one passenger with any frequency, consider the roomier A5 Sportback instead.
