The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro marks the end of an era

One of the oldest American nameplates in use, the Camaro has been around since the late 1960s. This is the final year of the iconic muscle car's sixth generation, which was introduced in 2016. The Camaro is likely to be rebooted as an electric vehicle in coming years.

For the final year of the sixth generation, the Camaro offers an available Collector's Edition package. The bottom-tier LS trim has been discontinued, so there is no four-cylinder engine available on the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro.

Chevrolet offers the Camaro as a coupe or convertible with multiple trim levels and three engine options. At one end of the lineup is the Camaro 1LT with a V6 that produces 335 horsepower; at the other is the ZL1, which boasts a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 pumping out 650 horsepower. As it did decades ago, the Camaro goes head-to-head with the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger.

What We Like

  • Performance: While many enthusiasts pine for the classic Camaros, this current generation delivers performance on a level never possible in earlier versions. The V8 Camaros provide the full-on muscle car experience with the accompanying strong acceleration and throaty soundtrack. The manual transmission with rev matching makes every driver feel like a pro, and the Camaro delivers a fun-to-drive experience backed up with excellent handling and braking.

  • Comfort: The Camaro is surprisingly comfortable; its suspension delivers a smooth ride, especially with the Magnetic Ride Control in the V8 models. The front seats provide good support without feeling tight, and the padded armrests and doors are a nice addition.

  • Technology: As in other GM models, the Camaro's infotainment system is designed for easy navigation. Graphics look good and use large icons. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay® are standard, as are voice recognition and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Look for models with the larger eight-inch screen, which is easier to use than the smaller one on lower-end models.

What Needs Improvement

  • Storage: Utility is not in the Camaro's vocabulary, with very little space for even daily cargo-carrying duties. The trunk has just 9.1 cubic feet of space, and it isn't easy to load, given the tiny opening and high liftover height. Storage inside the cabin is also lacking, with small door pockets and a small center armrest storage area. As is often the case with a sport coupe, the rear seats are best reserved for small children but work better for carrying cargo.
