The all-new Chevrolet Trax is a small SUV that’s a big value
The 2024 Chevrolet Trax gets a complete redesign that gives it more visual punch, upgraded tech, and a boost in interior space. Available in five trims, every Trax is front-wheel-drive and comes with a 137-horsepower turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Unlike some rival small SUVs, all-wheel drive is not available on Chevy’s least expensive SUV.
While acceleration is leisurely, the Trax returns a commendable EPA-estimated 28 mpg in city driving and 32 mpg on the highway. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov. Thanks to its small size the Trax is ideal for city driving. It can squeeze into tiny gaps in traffic and snug parking spots.
Standard features are plentiful and include wireless smartphone connectivity, two USB ports, automatic high-beam headlights, and rear-seat reminder. Direct competitors to the Trax consist of the Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Venue, Kia Seltos, and Honda HR-V.

What We Like
Price and feature content: Even the entry-level Trax LS comes with a user-friendly infotainment touchscreen that’s compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The midlevel Trax can be found with sought-after items like blind-spot warning, heated front seats, and automatic climate control.
Attractive exterior and interior: The Trax looks like a shrunken-down version of Chevrolet’s sporty-looking midsize Blazer SUV. That’s not a bad thing, especially considering the previous iteration of the Trax had a fairly under-the-radar design. Inside, the dashboard and the materials used throughout the cabin have also been nudged upmarket in terms of their design and feel.
Larger touchscreen: If the standard eight-inch center touchscreen isn’t to your liking, an optional 11-inch screen is available. Both have clear menus and respond quickly to inputs. The larger of the two screens holds the edge in usability thanks to its larger icons. It can also be paired to an eight-inch digital instrument cluster too.
What Needs Improvement
All-wheel drive isn’t offered: The lack of all-wheel drive could be a deal breaker for SUV shoppers who want extra grip when roads turn slippery.
