2019 Chevrolet Volt review

1. Plug-in-hybrid performance 

If you want to switch to an EV but are still deciding whether to go with an all-electric powertrain, the 2019 Chevrolet Volt is an excellent compromise. This model features a 1.5L four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and an 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with an EPA-estimated range of 53 miles on a full charge (electric only) and an EPA-estimated range of 420 miles with a full charge and full tank of gas. This plug-in-hybrid powertrain is great for drivers who appreciate electric-only range and don’t want to be slowed by charging. When the battery runs low or more robust acceleration is required, the gas engine and electric motor quickly take over. 

2. Energy recovery 

The 2019 Chevrolet Volt includes an advanced regenerative braking system that maximizes efficiency by harnessing energy during deceleration and braking. This innovative technology captures kinetic energy that would otherwise be lost and converts it into electrical energy, which replenishes the battery and extends the vehicle's electric range. The 2019 Volt also features a regen-on-demand mode, allowing you to adjust the level of regenerative braking to suit your driving preferences. With this system, every stop becomes an opportunity to recharge the battery and minimize charging breaks. 

3. Convenient charging 

When you are ready to make a charging stop, the 2019 Chevrolet Volt offers multiple ways to juice up the plug-in hybrid. All models come standard with a 120-volt portable charge cord that can fully recharge a depleted battery in approximately 13 hours, ideal for overnight charging. The 2019 Volt also includes a 240-volt charger for quicker charging, which can refresh the battery in approximately 4.5 hours. With home and away settings, location-based charging lets you delay charging to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates, further adding to the 2019 Volt’s convenience. 

4. Comfortable interior 

Despite its compact exterior dimensions, the 2019 Volt offers a spacious and comfortable interior, accommodating up to five passengers with ease. With 42.1 inches of front legroom and 34.7 inches of rear legroom, average-sized adults enjoy ample stretch-out space. The 2019 Volt also has many standard features that add to its in-car appeal, such as automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Optional features on the LT trim include available heated mirrors, front seats, and steering wheel, while the Premier boasts standard heated rear outboard seats and a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat with two-way lumbar adjustment for added comfort.

The 2019 Volt is equipped with advanced technology features that enhance convenience, entertainment, and connectivity on the road. Standard with the 2019 Volt is an infotainment system featuring an eight-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth® connectivity, and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. Additionally, the Volt offers available driver assistance features such as forward collision alert, lane keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert, providing added peace of mind on every journey.
