2022 GMC Savana is still kicking
The tried and true 2022 GMC Savana does not look much different than it did when it debuted more than 20 years ago, but it's not without merit. It's one of the few truck-based, full-size vans left on the market and comes in at lower starting prices than rivals made by Ram, Mercedes-Benz and Ford. As a truck-based van, it also boasts a more impressive tow rating. And to keep up with regulations, GMC has added some modern features like a backup camera and Bluetooth® connectivity.
Still, if you're looking for a work or passenger van with more options, you might want to check out the competition. The Savana's old formula may be good enough for value-conscious shoppers, but it doesn't offer the high rooflines of its rivals and it comes in fewer styles and configurations. You can get the Savana with three different engines and, if you're looking at the passenger van, in two different trims. Otherwise, the GMC van is a pretty simple experience.

What We Like
Value: If you're looking for a good deal, this is the van for you. The Savana costs less than rivals like the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster while still being able to haul people and their stuff around.
Towing: Thanks to the Savana's truck-based design, the GMC is more capable when it comes to towing than its rivals. It can tow more than 6,000 pounds when properly equipped compared to the likes of the Ford Transit, which tops out at more than 4,000 pounds.
Engines: You have the option of three engines, all of which offer impressive torque and power. The 6.6-liter V8 generates more than 400 horsepower, which is solid for a vehicle in this class.
What Needs Improvement
Tech: Put simply, this is an old and outdated van that does not put a high emphasis on modern technology. While it offers a backup camera and Bluetooth connectivity, you won’t find Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™—this is not the vehicle to purchase if modern amenities are high priorities.
