Wrinkles form on the 2018 Infiniti QX60 luxury SUV
Now more than half a decade old, the 2018 Infiniti QX60 offers midsize SUV room in a seven-passenger, three-row package. Cargo space ranges from 16 cubic feet behind the third-row seat to 76.2 cubic feet behind the front seats.
Infiniti canceled the previously available hybrid powertrain for 2018, leaving a 3.5-liter V6 producing 295 horsepower. It uses a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) to power the front or all four wheels. The maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds, which is better than some competitors. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories.
Options include a Rear Door Alert system, which warns the driver to check the back seat before locking and leaving the luxury SUV. Most other safety features are optional. Also, the infotainment system does not support Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™, but if you’re still rocking a CD collection, it offers a CD player.
In the QX60’s rivals you can find sportier driving dynamics, more tech, or a roomier third-row seat. But they may also cost more, making the Infiniti a relative bargain.

What We Like
Good acceleration: The Infiniti QX60’s standard V6 engine provides plenty of smooth power, especially for passing slower vehicles. Often CVT designs produce excessive noise as engine revs climb, but Infiniti programs the one in the QX60 to simulate gear changes, helping to reduce any racket. If you want to maximize fuel economy, you can choose an Eco driving mode to assist in that goal.
Quiet comfort: You’ll find plenty of room in the QX60’s first two rows of seats, and the SUV is commendably quiet on the road. While Infiniti’s car models are loud and performance-oriented, the comparatively hushed and plush QX60 emphasizes luxury and isolation. It’s easy to enter the third-row seat, too, even if a child safety seat is strapped into the second row. However, space for adults in the rearmost seating area is cramped.
Excellent climate controls: If you live where weather extremes are common, you’ll like the QX60’s effective triple-zone climate control system. It even offers an available air filtration and purification system. Heated and ventilated front seats are also available, along with a heated steering wheel and heated second-row seats. They’re effective and go a long way toward making the QX60 a comfortable place to spend time.
What Needs Improvement
Infotainment system: The most impressive thing about the QX60’s infotainment system is that the optional navigation system offers a 3D view of nearby buildings. Otherwise, from its unimpressive voice recognition technology to its lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, the Infiniti InTouch™ system is actually out of touch with what luxury SUV buyers want. Activating the Infiniti Connection® services plan might help to increase owner satisfaction.
