The 2022 Subaru Impreza is the entry point to the Subaru lineup and is one of the least expensive all-wheel-drive models on the market. Last redesigned for the 2019 model year, the Impreza moves into the 2022 model year with the same styling and features. Subaru offers the Impreza in two body styles, sedan and five-door hatchback. Four trim levels are available, ranging from the base to the well-equipped Limited. The only change for 2019 is that the Limited trim is only available as a hatchback. All models come standard with Subaru's EyeSight® advanced driver-assistance system (except models with manual transmission) and full-time all-wheel drive. Only one engine is offered, and while it is not very powerful, it does deliver good estimated fuel economy. All-wheel drive is uncommon in the compact car segment, but the competition includes the Mazda3 and Mini Countryman.

Interior: The Subaru Impreza is quiet and smooth on the road without being too soft. The front seats are firm but comfortable, with good support, and overall the cabin feels quite roomy. Rear passengers will find decent legroom, although taller passengers might be a bit cramped. Large doors make it easy to get in and out.
Technology: The main touchscreen display has a layout similar to a smartphone, making it easy to see and operate. Controls are intuitive, and the secondary screen at the top of the dash is more valuable than expected. The adaptive cruise control works well, providing smooth braking and acceleration, as does the lane keeping assistance system.
Performance: Acceleration is not stellar, but the Impreza is still enjoyable to drive with quick, responsive steering and predictable, firm brakes. Body roll is well controlled, and the all-wheel drive provides the Impreza with sportier handling than the competition. The availability of a manual transmission adds to the fun for the driving enthusiast.
Value: The base-level Impreza certainly fits the bill for those looking to get an all-wheel-drive vehicle at the lowest price. However, higher-level trims increase the cost without raising the quality of the interior or adding enough features to help the small car stand out, making the Impreza a harder sell compared to the competition.
