Family hauler ready for adventure

If you’re looking for a vehicle that can handle light off-roading and tackle snowy weather but drives like a sporty sedan, the 2015 Volvo XC70 luxury wagon ticks those boxes. It has cargo room like an SUV and is surefooted in inclement weather or for outdoor adventures. For 2015, the XC70 has a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, this engine is only available only on the front-wheel-drive XC70. For all-wheel drive, move on to the models with the six-cylinder engines and six-speed transmission. As a Volvo, the 2015 XC70 has a long list of standard and available driver assistance features.

All Volvo XC70 years

5 reasons to buy the 2015 Volvo XC70

1. Mild off-road capabilities

The 2015 Volvo XC70 is not just a pretty face– it’s well equipped for light off-road excursions like trekking to a remote campsite or venturing on snow-covered roads. You’ll notice the raised suspension for extra ground clearance, front and rear underbody skid plates and lower body panels with material that resists hacks and scratches. It’s a practical vehicle for hauling outdoor gear, toting kids and their stuff, or a great weekend antiquing. Standard hill descent control uses the braking system to keep the car at a steady pace as it crawls down a slippery slope. The all-wheel-drive models add extra capability for dirt trail excursions.

2. Versatile cargo space

The cargo space of the 2015 Volvo XC70 is quite versatile, thanks to the back seat’s 40/20/40-split-folding design and the available folding front passenger seat. You can transport a wide combination of people and cargo. With the rear seats in place, you find 33 cu-ft of space. Fold down the rear seats to unveil 72 cu-ft of cargo room. Because the XC70 is a few inches shorter than a typical SUV, it’s easier to load rooftop gear like bikes and kayaks. If you have more to haul than fits inside, the 2015 Volvo XC70 with the 2.5 L four-cylinder engine can tow an estimated 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.

3. Advanced driver assistance aids

The 2015 XC70 comes standard with a blind-spot warning system, antilock disc brakes, hill descent control, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. Also, a standard collision avoidance system can automatically apply the brakes in low-speed situations when a frontal collision looms ahead. You can opt for the available Technology package to add frontal collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and a system to alert a drowsy driver.

4. Take your pick

There are 19 different versions of the 2015 XC70 depending on the engine, drivetrain, and trim level. The driving experience depends on the trim and engine, from sedate to thrilling. Performance ranges from the T5 Drive-E with 240 hp and a zero-to-60-mph time of 6.5 seconds to the 3.2 Wagon with 240 hp and a zero-to-60 time of 8.4 seconds. All versions of the XC70 provide a premium ride that glides over bumps and potholes. If you’re looking for all-wheel drive, it’s standard on models with the T6 3.2L six-cylinder engine.

5. Standard and available equipment

Even the base model 2015 Volvo XC70 has plenty of standard features, including power front seats, an eight-speaker audio system, and Bluetooth® connectivity. The Premier Plus package adds a power liftgate, a rearview camera, a folding front passenger seat, and power-folding rear head restraints on top of the Premier level features like a sunroof, leather upholstery, and keyless ignition and entry. To get a nav system on the T5 and 3.2 L, step up to the Platinum package. The Climate package adds a heated windshield, steering wheel, and front and rear seats for cold-weather driving.
