Reviews for 2014
Great choice for commuting
The Gen I Volts represent a great deal so I bought this instead of the newer model. Really like the ability to drive without gasoline, I find this saves me $100/mo even with my limited use (800mi/mo). I did purchase a Level 2 EVSE to charge in 3½-4 hours, I highly recommend it for the convenience. The ride is tranquil due to the lack of motor noise and the great sound from the Bose audio system. I find I drive this car more then I thought I would for this reason. My only issue is driving in the winter, the heater will reduce your range significantly. Using heated seats and running heat when the engine comes on (~30 degrees) works for me. The air conditioning works well and doesn't affect the range nearly as much. Very glad I purchased!
Pros
- Fuel Economy: Close to 50 miles before I need any gas
- Power: Instant torque from the motors if you need it
- Technology and Entertainment: USB for audio, XM weather and traffic well integrated
Cons
- Dashboard: Takes time to get used to - read the owners manual!
- Interior Space: Billed as a 4 seater, the back seat is rather snug
Poor reliability
We bought the car with a good price with surprisingly low miles. Looks great and drives great. HOWEVER, not a week after bringing it home the check engine light came on. After several trips to car max and a visit to BMW, the check engine light continually came on. The first month the car spent more time at the dealer than in our possession. Car max was great and bought the car back from us for the sale price. Kudos to Car Max for their understanding that sometimes you just get a lemon.
Pros
- Ride and Handling:
Cons
- Reliability:
Great Less Expensive Alternative to Tahoe
Comparing it to the Tahoe. Purchased used and was approximately $7000 less in price with 10000 less miles at time of purchase. Feels and is a bit smaller than the Tahoe and with the R/T package (Hemi) with AWD can tow up to 7200#. Fit and finish is comparable to Tahoe. Intermittent AWD is the biggest disappointment in the snows of the Pacific NW. Not a city driver with poor gas mileage. On the interstate getting between 21-23 MPG varies with wind direction and which set of tires I have on the car. These MPG numbers are when going approximately 0-5 MPG over the posted speed limit. The 8 speed transmission shifts like a dream but not a fan of the paddle shifters (May still not know how to keep them disengaged all the time.)
Pros
- Safety: Lots of air bags
- Dashboard: Easy to view
- Power: Hemi Power
Cons
- Visibility:
- Seat Comfort:
