The 428i xDrive Gran Coupe is well-grounded and glides along the road in a manner becoming of a Bimmer. I've had no issues with the vehicle thus far and average 30mpg's for my combined driving (lots of highway / occasionally spirited mountain road driving).

Reviews for BMW 428

Overall Rating

4.8 out of 5 (16 reviews)

Fun car to experience!

It's the best hardtop convertible you are gonna find on the market. It has a combination of power and luxury that cannot be beat by any of the other hard tops out there (looking at you VW).

Pros

  • Styling: Both the exterior and interior of the car look great! Its an impressive looking car and I get compliments from strangers all the time.
  • Weather Versatility: The hard top is great! It adds a new dimension to driving. Another plus is when it rains, since it's an hard top, it sounds like a normal car.
  • Braking: The breaking in the car is phenomenal. I've owned Toyotas in the past and the breaks on this car blow those out of the water.

Cons

  • Fuel Economy: In the city, I average between 21 and 23 which is a bummer... However, in eco on the highway I get 30/31, but the majority of my driving is in the city.
  • Cost to Maintain: It's a BMW.... Everything will cost more to do, such as brake pad replacements.
  • Cargo Space: Limited on space in the trunk since the hard top mechanics are in the back... BMW does make it easy however to maximize the space by having a feature that raises the hard top when the top is down to better access the trunk.

Love my Beemer!

The car is surprisingly good on gas, can accelerate quick when needed, smooth ride, and all the technology makes for a good quite, hands-free ride. I for the X Drive in silver with peanut butter seats and 18 inch wheels. I always get compliments when driving and valet. BMW has made a good looking car and I am so glad I have it!

Pros

  • Braking:
  • Cabin Noise:
  • Technology and Entertainment:

Highway Commuter

I drive about 45 miles to and from work; I have a few blocks of city-driving and then highway speeds for the vast majority of the drive. The 428i xDrive Gran Coupe is well-grounded and glides along the road in a manner becoming of a Bimmer. I've had no issues with the vehicle thus far and average 30mpg's for my combined driving (lots of highway / occasionally spirited mountain road driving).

Pros

  • Ride and Handling:
  • Fuel Economy:

Cons

  • Cost to Maintain: Don't take it to BMW -- cost isn't too bad, if taken to a BMW certified local.
  • Dashboard: Weird-ish issue... My 30oz Yeti tumbler doesn't fit in the cup holders, because the dash is too close to the holders - the tumbler rests cock-eyed in the cup holder.
