Realistically, I'm not sure I would recommend it. It's neither great nor totally subpar. Just meh. After 6 months of ownership it feels like my previous two trucks (Toyota Tundra and Chevy Avalanche) were a better built vehicles. There is a brake recall regarding the master cylinder that is nearly a year old that Ford does not have a fix for yet. It is easy to tell that Ford is only concerned with getting these trucks manufactured as fast as they can to maintain market share without a huge concern for quality.
this truck is a solid build. with the 3.5L twin turbo V6 ecoboost engine, it has ample amounts of power and unbelievable torque. when driven responsibly, the gas mileage is outstanding for a full size truck. throttle response is a bit slow (my previous truck was a V8 and was much more responsive) but once moving the horsepower makes up for it. It has great visibility and the cabin room is amazing. my 6'5" father-in-law fits comfortably in the back seat!
The EcoBoost was extremely disappointing! I purchased this truck in Jan 2015 and sold it back to CarMax less than 7 months later. With stock rims and tires I couldn't get over 14.5 mpg (3.73 gear ratio) no matter how much I baby'd the gas pedal. When I added a leveling kit and 35-inch tires, my mpg dropped to 11.5 mpg (it was 8.5 mpg when the rubber was new...and still with 3.73 gear ratio). The King Ranch package is awesome...everything I could want and more. I'm an I.T. geek so I appreciated all of the extras! I just could not stand the turbo lag and the poor gas mileage of the EcoBoost. If 11 mpg is all I can get with the EcoBoost, then put the 6.2 liter in the truck and call it good. Off-the-line acceleration was especially bad!
