About the 2014 Honda Civic
If you’re looking for a fun-to-drive small car for the everyday commute, the 2014 Honda Civic should be on your shopping list. You’ll enjoy its sporty styling, efficient yet potent powertrain choices and a substantial list of standard and available features. The 2014 Civic benefits from a mild refresh, gaining a revised front fascia along with higher-grade interior materials. Other changes include the addition of the LaneWatch™ system, which monitors the vehicle’s passenger-side blind spot with the help of a rear-facing camera built into the passenger-side exterior mirror. The 2014 Civic retains an updated version of the signature two-tier instrument panel that debuted on the eighth-generation Civic.

Q: What engine comes with the 2014 Civic Si?

Q: Does the 2014 Civic have a traditional automatic transmission?
A: For 2014, the Honda Civic’s five-speed automatic transmission was replaced with a continuously variable transmission.
The 2014 Honda Civic marks the third year of the long-running compact car’s ninth generation in the U.S. market. Compared to the 2012 and 2013 model years, the 2014 Civic offers greater refinement along with a few exterior tweaks. The 2014 Civic Sedan and Coupe come available in base LX, mid-tier EX and top-tier EX-L, as well as the sporty Si trim. There’s also the HF, Hybrid and Natural Gas, but these trims are limited to the sedan body style. All trims, save for the Hybrid and sport-oriented Si, get their motivation from a 1.8L inline-four rated at 143 hp and 129 lb-ft of torque. The Si offers a larger 2.4L inline-four offering a more thrilling 205 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque.
If you’re expecting the Civic’s five-speed automatic transmission, you’ll find a continuously variable transmission in its stead. Paired with the 1.8L engine, the CVT offers smoother power delivery while helping the 2014 Civic reach an impressive EPA-estimated 29 mpg city and 37 mpg highway.1 If you prefer rowing your own gears, you’ll find a five-speed manual transmission on the LX and EX trims. The 2014 Honda Civic Si offers a six-speed manual that matches the trim’s sporting ambitions while returning an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.1
If getting the most out of a tank of gas matters to you most, consider the Civic HF and Civic Hybrid. The 2014 Honda Civic HF, based on the LX trim, features a host of aerodynamic and weight-saving tweaks to achieve an EPA-estimated 40 mpg highway.1 The 2014 Civic Hybrid takes a slightly different route, using Honda’s established hybrid technology and a 1.5L inline-four to achieve an EPA-estimated 43 mpg city and 45 mpg highway.1
You can expect a long list of standard features from the 2014 Civic, including available remote entry, a rearview camera with guidelines, hands-free Bluetooth® capability and more. The EX trim adds attractive 16-inch alloy wheels, along with push button start and a generous seven-inch touchscreen display. The EX-L features standard leather-trimmed seats, fog lights and 17-inch alloys, along with an optional navigation system.

Reviews for 2014 Honda Civic
I love my Honda Civic!
This car drives smooth and the pickup is way better than I expected for a four cylinder!
Great car, great on gas!
The car is awesome. It’s just me and my daughter so it works for us. We don’t need much room and as a single mom a car great on gas is also a plus. The hands free Bluetooth capability makes it super easy to multitask safely. I named my car blessing because I felt it was fitting! I’m glad I made the purchase!
- Fuel Economy: Small tank and great on gas
- Cost to Maintain: Affordable and low maintenance
- Interior Space: The interior space is pretty small
- Technology and Entertainment: Narrow not many options
- Seat Comfort: I experience some back pain when driving
An excellent two door option. I don’t have lot’s of people to drive around and being able to put the rear seats down to combine the trunk and rear into a larger space is excellent. Also gets excellent mileage compared to my old vehicle. All around a perfect car for a family of two without need to move large quantities of cargo or people.
- Fuel Economy: 29 mpg on average
- Cabin Noise: Fairly low cabin noise
- Reliability: Has not had any issues in the first year.
- Technology and Entertainment: Infotainment system is antiquated. Needs Android Auto/Carplay
- Power: Is not the most powerful engine but get’s the job done.
- Interior Space: If you’re tall you may have problems with hitting your head on the ceiling. Low clearance.
