Generation Overview

The 2018 Ram 1500 is the final model year for this pickup truck's fourth generation, which launched in 2009. For the 2018 model specifically, new trims such as the Night, Lone Star Silver, and Express made their debut.

Ram 1500 Engine Options

The fourth-generation Ram 1500 (2009-2018) spans nearly a full decade, and there have been many changes in trim and engine offerings throughout the years. However, most fourth-generation Ram 1500 models come standard with either a 3.6L or 3.7L V6 engine at 305-215 hp.

On some trims, such as the Limited and Laramie Longhorn, a more powerful 5.7L V8 engine at 395 hp is standard. On most model years, the V8 engine is optional on nearly every trim as well.

Beginning with the 2014 model year, a 3.0L diesel V6 engine at 240 hp also becomes available on select trims and is standard on the HFE and HFE EcoDiesel trims.

Every fourth-generation Ram 1500 comes standard with front-wheel drive, although two different four-wheel drive systems are optional.

Ram 1500 Cab and Bed Sizes

The fourth-generation Ram 1500 is offered in three cab sizes and three bed sizes. The regular cab features a front-row bench seat with seating for up to three people. Meanwhile, the Quad Cab adds a second-row bench seat and seating for six. The crew cab also seats six, but features larger doors and additional rear-seat legroom for passengers.

The Ram 1500 is offered in three bed sizes: a five-foot-seven-inch short bed, a standard six-foot-four-inch bed, and an eight-foot long bed.
