About the BMW 228
If you are in the market for a classy, well-equipped, and capable luxury small car then the BMW 228 may be the ideal vehicle for you. After first coming onto the market as a 2014 model, the BMW 228 was discontinued following the release of the 2016 model. Today, however, the BMW 228 is still a sought after vehicle on the used car market thanks in no small part to its capable engine and generous list of standard features. The 2016 BMW 228, for example, comes equipped with a 240 hp 2.0L twin-turbocharged four-cylinder engine as well as standard features such as push-button start, a 6.5-inch display, automatic climate control, and much more. All things considered, buying a used BMW 228 from CarMax is an excellent option to look into for anyone wanting to purchase a luxury small car that is upscale, feature-rich, and high-performing.

Reviews for BMW 228
Wonderful upgrade at a great price
Pros: great gas mileage / fuel efficiency (does require higher octane fuel, however) fun to drive / great power and option to drive with "sport" feature enabled great style Cons: backseat is not great for additional passengers so if you need to have a 4-person car on a regular basis and want your backseat to be comfortable consider a larger sedan.
- Fuel Economy: >30 MPG highway
- Dashboard: Attractive and efficient - form and function are very appealing.
- Weather Versatility: sunroof is a much more practical feature than a convertible for all-season driving
- Cost to Maintain: Replacement of headlamp required service appointment, not excited to maintain parts moving forward
- Seat Comfort: backseat is very uncomfortable - does not affect me; but for awareness
I'm in love with this convertible 228. It is so much fun to drive every time I get in. Everything works without issues. I had a "pre-purchase" inspection performed by a mechanic and they did not find any issues. I bought the car with some bubbles in the display screen and CarMax replaced it under the limited warranty. BMW always nails the driving mechanics. It drives great. It's very comfortable and has plenty of features.
- Fuel Economy:
- Ride and Handling:
- Interior Space: It's small inside but that is expected with a convertible.
Loose mega bucks quickly!
Drives like a boss! But it takes an incredible depreciation dive like a chump! After I bought it I had it appraised 5 months later and that $5000 down payment was completely gone. Luxury and near luxury cars take huge losses, so think long and hard about buying this car. Also, it has very quirky controls, like pushing the start button twice to cut the car off and you have to manually press a button on the center console to open the doors.
- Braking: excellent stopping distance.
- Ride and Handling: You'll like the way it handles.
- Cost to Maintain: 4 year 50,000 mile warranty! with scheduled maintenance included.
- Dashboard: quirky controls
- Value: horrible value as depreciation quickly reduces true market value
