The 2013 Ford Mustang is wickedly good fun in coupe and convertible format
The Ford Mustang rolls into the 2013 model year looking to win the hearts—and wallets—of driving enthusiasts. Granted, you don’t need to have premium-grade fuel coursing through your veins to appreciate what Ford’s pony car has to offer. The standard 305-horsepower V6 has plenty of grunt and returns a commendable EPA-estimated 31 mpg on the highway. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov. Of course we’d be remiss to not point out the thrills provided by the 5.0-liter V8 under the hood of the Mustang GT and Boss 302 models. For even wilder levels, the Mustang Shelby GT500 comes with a 650-hp supercharged V8.
Available as a sleek coupe or sun-loving convertible, the Mustang competes with rivals like the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger, and (to some degree) the Hyundai Genesis coupe. For the 2013 model year, the Mustang benefits from a subtle exterior refresh with updated front and rear lighting, a reprofiled grille, and functional hood vents.

What We Like
You’ll make lots of friends: Owning a Ford Mustang is like gaining entry to a very large and passionate club. This makes everything from routine maintenance and one-of-a-kind customization a cinch. There are lots of Mustangs on the road, but that only drives home how popular the Mustang is.
Performance: Muscle-car fans on a budget won’t be disappointed with the 305-hp V6 that serves as the standard powertrain. Upgrading to the V8 in the Mustang GT or Boss 302 takes things to another level, however. Each can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under 5.0 seconds.
Choice of body style: Unlike some rivals, the Mustang can be had in one of two available body styles. Both the coupe and convertible look great and turn heads wherever they roam.
What Needs Improvement
Fuel economy with V8 engines: The Mustang’s V8 engines deliver awesome speed but pretty miserable mileage. A Mustang GT fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox returns an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in a mix of city and highway driving.
