The 2024 Ford Mustang gets a big redesign with more power and technology
The Ford Mustang is an iconic rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that is one of the longest-running models on the road today. Its direct competitors are the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro, which have been discontinued for 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Ford has committed to the Mustang with a redesign for 2024, kicking off the seventh generation of what is sometimes called a "pony car." Highlights include a new body style, better performance, a more modern interior featuring new digital screens, and a revised dashboard layout. The updates are more evolutionary than revolutionary, however, as this Mustang shares several underpinnings with its predecessor. The engines, for example, are similar to last year's offerings, with a four-cylinder turbo and a 5.0-liter V8, but have been tweaked to make more power. There's also a new Mustang Dark Horse trim with performance upgrades that include a V8 that produces 500 horsepower, an adaptive suspension, larger Brembo brakes, and shorter differential gearing.

What We Like
Engaging performance: The base four-cylinder Mustang is a solid sports car that offers more thrills from its handling abilities than its powertrain. The V8, on the other hand, makes ferocious noises and growls with intensity the higher the revs climb. When the transmission is in the appropriate gear, stepping onto the throttle provides quick acceleration that feels controllable and doesn't overwhelm.
High-tech screens: A 12.4-inch digital instrument panel is joined to a 13.2-inch touchscreen powered by Ford's SYNC® 4 software. The instrument display has plenty of options to customize it to your liking. The touchscreen is responsive, easy to read, and has an intuitive menu structure. Similarly, we found the navigation system to be quick, easy to read, and efficient.
Improved cabin controls: If you’re worried about Ford’s decision to replace physical buttons with touchscreen controls, rest assured that the new display has plenty of room for the new virtual buttons and they are very legible. The previous Mustang's button-heavy steering wheel has been tidied up. This one is much easier to operate by feel.
What Needs Improvement
Relocated air vents: One major redesign change relocated the center air vents from the top to the middle of the dashboard. These revised vents don't offer nearly the same range of adjustment or airflow as before. Fans of physical climate controls will be disappointed by the fully digital controls in the Dark Horse trim. That said, most of the controls are anchored to the bottom of the touchscreen, but for some functions, like the fan speed, you need to interact with an additional menu.
