2021 Lexus GX 460 review

1. Comfort for everyone 

The Lexus GX 460 has lots of comfort-enriching features. Leather seats and tri-zone climate control are standard on the Premium and Luxury trims, along with heated/ventilated front seats, and heated second-row outboard seats for when temperatures drop. If you don’t need the GX 460’s full passenger-carrying capability, two available captain’s chairs replace the second-row seats for increased luxury. 

2. Advanced tech 

Whether you’re driving solo, or have your nearest and dearest riding with you, the onboard technology of the Lexus GX 460 is sure to impress. Every GX trim has an eight-inch color multimedia touchscreen, Bluetooth^® connectivity, and four USB ports. Lexus’ suite of Enform connected services lets you start the engine remotely using your smartphone, smartwatch, or via Google, and for 2021, includes Amazon Alexa connectivity.

Keyless entry and push-button start are convenient for when your hands are full of shopping, and available parking assistance features ease the challenge of a busy parking lot.  

3. Available packages 

If you’re looking for a feature-rich SUV, the Lexus GX 460 may be the car for you, and the available packages add more practicality and technology. The Premium Plus package is new for 2021, adding a 17-speaker Mark Levinson^® surround sound audio system (available separately on other trims), and power-folding third-row seats to the standard Premium trim features. The Navigation package adds integrated navigation and the Sport Design package has exterior cosmetic enhancements.  

4. Up for adventure 

Handy in the city, the 2021 Lexus GX 460 is useful on more challenging terrain, too. The four-wheel drive system has a Torsen^® torque-sensing limited-slip center differential to distribute engine power between both axles for optimized traction. Downhill and hill-start assist systems that control descent and ascent speeds are reassuring when navigating steeper ground. When you get serious on the rough stuff, the available Off-Road package’s Multi-Terrain Select drive mode program will give you extra confidence.  

5. Hitch a ride 

The 4.6L V8 engine of the Lexus GX 460 has 301 hp and 329 lb-ft of torque. It’s a formidable hauling companion, whether your destination is a forest clearing or watersports on the lake. The available tow hitch receiver, trailer ball, and ball mount will make you ready to pull almost anything. The GX 460 can tow an estimated 6,500 lbs with the V8, when properly equipped, and the standard Trailer Sway Control system picks up on extreme trailer movement to avoid any unnecessary drama.
