The Polestar 2 is an electric sedan with cutting-edge tech and a quirky design
Among electric luxury cars and SUVs, the Polestar 2 stands out thanks to its unique design that blends a sedan shape with the extra ride height of a crossover. Now in its second year of production, a new front-wheel-drive single-motor version joins the Polestar lineup. This entry-level model offers an EPA-estimated 270 miles of range, versus 249 miles in the sporty dual-motor all-wheel-drive version. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Actual mileage will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info. Range is about average for an EV, though notably less than some direct competitors like the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
On the plus side, the Polestar 2 features a cutting-edge Google-based infotainment system with clear menus and high-definition graphics. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and space in the second row is adult-friendly as well. The hatchback's rear cargo area measures in at a handy 14.3 cubic feet, and there is a small front trunk. All in all, the Polestar 2 is a solid pick among a growing group of luxury EVs.

What We Like
Choice of powertrains: By adding a single-motor front-wheel-drive version to the lineup, the Polestar 2 allows an EV shopper to prioritize range over performance. Granted, the strong acceleration of the all-wheel-drive model is pretty addictive and lots of fun from behind the wheel. But having more powertrain choices broadens this electric sedan's appeal.
Cutting-edge infotainment system: The Google-based infotainment system is controlled by a user-friendly touchscreen that responds quickly to inputs. Voice commands are also straightforward and help the driver stay focused on the road. An especially nice touch is the Google Maps-based navigation system. It’s highly detailed and helps locate charging stations when needed.
Car-meets-SUV design and utility: There’s no doubt about it, the shape and exterior detailing of the Polestar 2 are distinctive. Having a higher ride height than a typical sedan adds a touch of SUV to its design, not to mention a more commanding view of the road ahead. The rear hatchback is a nice touch, and it opens wide and allows easy access to the cargo area.
What Needs Improvement
Mediocre range: Even with 270 miles of driving range in the single-motor version, the Polestar 2 still falls behind a number of electric competitors. Hopefully, Polestar will continue the upward trajectory in range.
