5 reasons to buy the 2019 Volkswagen GTI
1. Punchy turbo engine
If you’d like to make highway passes with ease, the 2019 GTI’s turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine is sure to please. For 2019, the GTI now boasts 228 hp, thanks to an eight hp increase compared to the previous year’s model. This boost in power translates to even more dynamic acceleration and responsive handling, enhancing its reputation as a fun-to-drive hot hatch.
2. Driver aids
In addition to the base S trim’s standard rearview camera, look for a base trim 2019 GTI with the optional Driver Assistance package, as this adds further driver aids, including blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. These package features are standard for the Rabbit trim upwards. The range-topping Autobahn includes gives you even more, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist for smoother highway driving and an automated self-parking system for regular stops and appointments.
3. Plenty of standard tech
You’ll enjoy the high-tech feel of the 2019 GTI, as it has plenty of useful features for you and your crew. A 6.5-inch high-definition touchscreen interface is standard, with an eight-inch version for the SE trim and above. Stay connected on the go with Bluetooth® hands-free calling and audio. You'll also get seamless smartphone integration through standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity. Comfort tech isn’t forgotten either, with heated front seats and ambient interior lighting included on all models.
4. Cool Rabbit trim
Want to make a statement? For the 2019 model year, Volkswagen adds the limited-edition GTI Rabbit trim level, bringing stand-out styling to this already buzz-worthy hot-hatch. Highlight exterior styling features include 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels, an exclusive gloss black spoiler, and two Rabbit-exclusive paint options, Cornflower Blue and Urano Gray. Complementing the GTI’s standard Clark Plaid seating surfaces are Rabbit seat tags and red stitch detailing.
5. Plenty of storage
For items big and small, the 2019 GTI can serve up a stowage space for them all. When it comes to running errands with bulky items, you'll have 22.8 cu-ft of cargo space behind the rear seats, and up to 52.7 cu-ft with them folded down. For items close to hand, you’ll appreciate the center console stowage, door pocket cubbies, and a decently-sized glove box for items you want out of sight.
