About the Mercedes-Benz GLC300
Vehicle Summary
The GLC300 is an upscale midsize SUV from Mercedes that drives well and doesn't cost too much. On sale since the 2016 model year, it replaced the more angular and upright-looking GLK. Outside, the styling is an attractive mix of curves and straight lines. Inside you'll find seating for five, plus the superior materials, fit and finish you'd expect from this brand. As the entry model in the GLC range the 300 comes with a 2.0L turbo that drives the rear wheels. (AWD 4MATIC® is available as an option.) Those looking for a hybrid will be pleased to know there is one available, and the power-hungry will no doubt be drawn to the AMG variants.

FAQ
Q: What is a night package Mercedes GLC?
A: The Night Package is an option that dresses up the GLC with black exterior elements. In addition to 19-inch black-accented wheels you get a gloss black air dam and grille crossbars plus mirror housings, window trim and roof rails, all shiny black.
Q: What does GLC stand for in Mercedes?
A: According to Mercedes, “G” references their classic “G-Wagen” SUV and signifies the vehicle is an SUV. The “C” indicates the size and position in the range as it does with the sedans, making the GLC comparable to a C-Class sedan. Regarding the “L,” a Mercedes press release calls it a, “linking letter,” although other explanations have been proposed. For example, the full name of the G-Wagen is “Geländewagen,” so it could come from that. Alternatively, it may indicate “Luxury” as in Luxury SUV.
Q: What is the difference between the Mercedes GLC and GLE?
A: It's like the C-Class and E-Class sedans; both are SUVs but the GLC is slightly smaller overall. Also, while the GLC only seats five the GLE can be optioned with seating for seven.
Q: Where is the Mercedes GLC built?
A: US-spec GLCs are built mostly in Bremen, Germany although since 2017 build has also been contracted-out to Valmet of Uusikaupunki, Finland. (Look for “Made in Finland” on the sticker.) It's been reported that MB will start importing GLCs assembled in Pune, India.
Mercedes-Benz GLC300 Features
Some of the most interesting things about this appealing 2018 SUV are:
- Sophisticated powertrain. The 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 241 hp and 273 lb-ft. The zero to 60 time is a claimed 6.3 seconds. In other words, you won't find it wanting for power. Mated to a nine-speed transmission, a RWD 2018 GLC300 achieves an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the City and 28 Highway with a Combined figure of 24 mpg.1
- Attractive wheels. Five-spoke, 18-inch alloys are standard. Upgrades to 19-or even 20-inch wheels are possible although this requires other upgrades such as the Night Package.
- Adaptive suspension with selectable drive modes. This delivers a smooth ride while firming-up in sharp turns for a sportier feel. A rotary knob mounted in the center console manages the DYNAMIC SELECT function for choosing between five driving modes.
- Comfortable, well-equipped interior. The seating for five adults is upholstered in MB-Tex simulated leather. With 14-way power adjustment on the driver's seat plus powered steering wheel adjustment and seat position memory, no driver should ever struggle to get comfortable.
- Dual-zone automatic climate control.
While well-equipped in base 300 form, Mercedes gives buyers a number of options for upgrading. On the 2018 model these include:
- AMG Line and Night packages for larger wheels and distinctive styling.
- Premium Package, includes Blind Spot Assistance and the KEYLESS-GO® function that lets you keep your key in your pocket.
- Multimedia Package, upgrades to an 8.4-inch screen with COMAND navigation and voice control.
- Driver Assistance Package, includes a suite of active aids, such as: DISTRONIC Active Distance Assist, Active Steering Assist and Active Brake Assist.
1 Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates when vehicles sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov for details.
