2015 Mazda CX-9 review

1. Sharp body 

The 2015 CX-9, like so many Mazda models, adds a touch of sportiness to its base midsize SUV design, ensuring it looks anything but mundane. Its striking silhouette is highlighted by its sloped nose, sporty grille, and long roofline. Fortunately, the 2015 CX-9’s good looks don’t stop there. Inside, this crossover boasts a waterfall-style dashboard that flows elegantly into the door panels. This creates a great flow from the front to the sides, adding to this midsize SUV's premium feel.  

2. Ample power 

The 2015 Mazda CX-9 features a standard 3.7L V6 engine with 273 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque that pairs to a six-speed automatic transmission. You can opt for standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive for added grip in slippery conditions. All said, this powertrain sprints the CX-9 to 60 mph in just 7.5 seconds and helps it deliver an estimated 3,500-pound towing capacity when properly equipped.

3. The perfect cruiser 

With its powerful V6 engine, well-built chassis, and compliant suspension, the 2015 Mazda CX-9 delivers quite a smooth cruise down the highway. Add a well-insulated cabin tuned to minimize road and wind noise, and you have a supremely comfortable daily commute. The 2015 CX-9 also features a surprisingly precise steering system that delivers great feedback so twists and turns remain a blast.  

4. Lots of passenger room 

The 2015 Mazda CX-9 can haul up to seven passengers, so you never have to leave anyone behind. Up front and in the second row, you and your passengers are treated to plenty of room with 40.9 and 39.8 inches of legroom, respectively. The third row is tighter with just 32.4 inches of legroom, but it's the perfect size for younger kids, though adults can fit in a pinch. 

5. Hauling made easy 

The 2015 CX-9 is a midsize crossover, so you expect certain cargo-hauling capabilities. You won’t be disappointed, as it delivers 100.7 cu-ft of cargo room with both rear rows folded and 48.3 cu-ft with the third row folded. Though it shrinks to a relatively tight 17.2 cu-ft with the third row upright, you still have plenty of room for a trip to the grocery store.
