A new take on the Mazda CX-9
Mazda gave the 2016 CX-9 a full redesign to match other models in its lineup. This new-for-2016 look brings in a sportier design with a longer, flatter hood, more pointed nose, and swooping body lines. This all pairs with a new-for-2016 turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder engine that delivers up to 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Inside, this three-row SUV is ready to take on your whole family and surround them in a renewed cabin design that gets downright luxurious in some higher trims.

5 reasons to buy the 2016 Mazda CX-9
1. Great looks
The CX-9’s previous model year was plenty sporty, but the 2016 redesign pushed its sportiness to a new level. This base midsize SUV’s design ensures the CX-9 is anything but mundane and gets plenty of stares on the road. It boasts a handsome silhouette that includes a long and flat hood, a more pointed nose, a sportier grille, and plenty of soft and curvy body lines. Inside, the 2016 CX-9’s cabin also got a full redo. This crossover boasts a more elegant design with a thinner dashboard, an infotainment screen atop the dash, angular climate-control vents, tasteful metallic accents, and more. Whether going on a long road trip or just to the office, you’ll ride in style in the 2016 CX-9.
2. Ample towing power
The 2016 Mazda CX-9 also picked up a new powertrain to go with its new looks. Out goes the old 3.7L V6 engine, and in comes a turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. You can opt for standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive for added grip in slippery conditions. Despite its smaller engine, the Mazda CX-9 has all the power it needs to retain its estimated 3,500-pound towing capacity when properly equipped.
3. Downright luxurious at times
Mazda is no luxury brand, but it’s been slowly creeping up the luxury charts in some of its models’ higher trim levels. This is exactly what the CX-9 does in its range-topping Signature model. The 2016 CX-9 Signature will surely check off many of your luxury boxes with its rosewood and aluminum trim and deep red Nappa leather upholstery.
4. Spacious first and second rows
The 2016 Mazda CX-9 has seating for up to seven passengers, so even big families can squeeze in for a ride. The best seats in the house are in the front and in the second rows, where you’ll get 41 and 39.4 inches of legroom, respectively. This is plenty of room for people of all shapes and sizes. The third row opens up the cabin to two more passengers, but the 29.7 inches of legroom make it best suited for small kids.
5. A pleasure to drive
The 2016 Mazda CX-9 has a new-for-2016 turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder engine that delivers up to 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque (227 hp on regular gasoline and 250 hp on premium). While the horsepower numbers may not be eye-popping, the 310 lb-ft of torque comes on early and strong, giving the 2016 CX-9 good acceleration from a stop or when passing. It also boasts a well-composed suspension that offers plenty of stability to tackle curves and lots of softness to keep things comfortable and noise minimized. Whether cruising to work or tackling a swoopy back road, you'll find it a pleasant ride in the 2016 CX-9.
