2024 Nissan Leaf review

1. Miles with smiles 

Have fun driving past the long lines at a gas station in a 2024 Leaf. Equivalent gas mileage varies slightly between the S and SV versions due to the different battery capacities. The S has an EPA-estimated 111 MPGe combined with a fully charged battery.

2. Make commuting fun 

The Leaf can easily keep pace in city traffic thanks to the responsive electric motor. The Leaf SV runs zero to 60 mph in 7 seconds, compared to the S at 7.8 seconds. Of course, no shifting is required, thanks to the single-speed transmission. The low-slung battery gives the Leaf balanced handling around turns. Routine stops can be handled with the e-Pedal regenerative braking system by lifting off the accelerator. If you learn the Leaf’s tendencies, you won’t have to touch the brake pedal to come to a stop. You can adjust the aggressiveness of the e-Pedal to suit your preferences. 

 3. Easy driving 

Riding in the Leaf is like your favorite mattress – it’s not too hard and not too soft. The seats are supportive but offer some cushioning. The ride is smooth and balanced, and it’s not intimidated by bumpy roads. Given the electric drive train, the Leaf is very quiet inside. However, you may notice road and wind noise that would be masked in a gas vehicle. 

 4. Techno buzz 

As an EV, technology is the foundation of the Leaf experience. The eight-inch infotainment touchscreen system includes Apple CarPlay^® and Android Auto^™ to integrate with your favorite phone smartphone. If you upgrade to the SV Plus level, you get ProPilot Assist with an advanced adaptive cruise control system and lane-keeping assistance functionality to ease freeway commuting. Also standard on the SV is the NissanConnect Services^® app that allows you to check battery status and control charging and HVAC settings remotely. 

 5. Space with grace 

Much of the Leaf’s interior is plastic to save weight, and the look and feel are undoubtedly acceptable. The standard interior color scheme is black, with seats covered in a suede-type material. The blue light from the automatic transmission selector is one small hint you’re in a different kind of car. For a subcompact hatchback, there’s adequate space for people and their things. When opened, the rear seats fold in a 60/40 split, expanding the rear luggage area from 23.6 cu-ft to 30 cu-ft.
