2018 Ford Edge is available with a wide range of features and options
The 2018 Ford Edge is available as a five-passenger, two-row SUV positioned between Ford's smaller Escape and larger three-row Explorer. It's offered in four trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport. The base SE is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 245 horsepower, while the SEL and Titanium can be equipped with a twin-turbo V6 with 280 horsepower. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic are standard with either engine, though all-wheel drive is available. The Edge Sport offers the most powerful drivetrain, featuring a twin-turbo V6 making 315 horsepower and equipped with standard all-wheel drive. Moving up through the SE, SEL, and Titanium trims adds more standard features, with the top-line Sport getting 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, and a sport-tuned suspension.
The Ford Edge's ride quality and interior space are its strengths, while the base engine's mediocre power and the six-speed automatic's sluggish response are its potential demerits depending on your performance needs and expectations.

What We Like
Comfort: With a cabin that's quiet even at highway speeds, comfortable seating, and smooth ride quality, the Ford Edge is pleasant for both short errands and long road trips. The performance-oriented Sport model notably improves driving dynamics without sacrificing comfort, while premium features like leather and synthetic suede upholstery bolster its luxury pedigree.
Storage: As a midsize SUV with only two rows of seats, the Ford Edge provides plenty of room for both passengers and cargo. Second-row passengers will have all the legroom and headroom they could want, and there's still almost 40 cubic feet of cargo space behind them. A two-tier center console offers effective storage for smaller objects.
Handling: Even the base SE model comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, and these combine with responsive steering and effective suspension tuning to make the Edge feel confident, if not truly sporty. The Edge Sport builds on this foundation with 20-inch wheels and stiffer suspension tuning, giving the family SUV an engaging personality worthy of its name.
What Needs Improvement
Performance: The standard 245-horsepower engine feels overtaxed, and it requires premium fuel to deliver maximum power. Acceleration with this engine falls behind many competitors, even before you add passengers and cargo. The more powerful V6 provides far better throttle response. The six-speed automatic transmission can be slow to react when you hit the gas.
