Beautiful car, decent mechanics, poor dealership.

Beautiful car, and most should be aware of the mechanical problems and maintenance that comes with a BMW.

Large, luxurious, impressive

The 740 is large and luxurious -- and yet performs like "lesser" cars in the BMW line up (I've previously owned a 1988 535i 5-speed; a 2002 325Ci 5-speed; and a 2007 530i automatic) as needed. In Sport and Sport+ modes, it rips. In Comfort and Comfort+ modes, it is graceful. The only concern (for me) is its size. The car has a big presence which is a challenge in my 1930s-era District of Columbia city neighborhood where parking is tight, street passages are narrow, and alleys are often obstructed . . . negotiating the neighborhood requires complete attention. Even more than I anticipated. Where the car particularly excels is on my frequent interstate road trips north to New England and south to the Carolinas and Florida. It gets 30+ MPG at 70+ mph, is quiet, easy to handle, plush. Every time I walk up on the car in a parking lot I like the way it looks and pleased that it's mine. I bought the extended MaxCare warranty because I'm concerned that major repairs will be costly (based on my previous ownership of BMWs and one Mercedes-Benz). Already (at 29,000 miles, about 5,000 miles and five months into ownership) it is starting to make a worsening droning noise that I think is probably a wheel bearing or hub assembly. I'm trying to troubleshoot the sound myself, but ultimately I know I'll have to bring it in for diagnosis and repair. As best I can tell my warranty will cover those maladies. During my research I learned that 2015-2016 were the last of the "best" years . . . beginning in 2017 the 7 series became even more complex mechanically and electronically.
