Customers say
Summarized by Skye

The BMW M235 delivers exceptional performance, with powerful engines, precise handling, and M-spec brakes. Customers praise its sporty design but criticize tight interior space and variable fuel economy. Technology features are advanced, and reliability is consistent across years. Some trims face cabin noise concerns, but overall satisfaction is high for enthusiasts.

2021 BMW M235
Good combo of fun/luxury
Pros

Power

only a 4 cylinder but it's quick

Dashboard

looks modern while still being practical

Braking

excellent responsive brakes
Cons

Cost to Maintain

need to use premium gas plus all parts are 'performance' so repairs will be pricey in the future

Interior Space

back seat not really big enough for an adult to sit comfortably for very long

Ride and Handling

I knew this beforehand but you 'feel the road' in this model moreso than most BMWs, but this isn't necessarily a con for me

2016 BMW M235
Reliable but expensive to maintain
Pros

Power

Press the accelerator and you go! Quickly! Great exhaust growl and turbo whistle. Very comfortable for the driver and front seat passenger.

Reliability

Rock solid reliability (once the factory plastic charge pipe is replaced with an aftermarket metal version.)

Technology and Entertainment

Easy (albeit expensive) to upgrade the head unit to include wireless Carplay and Android auto. Long press the multimedia button if you have installed an MMI unit, and the Carplay or AA menu pops up. I added an MMI prime unit to mine (totally hidden until the user long presses the media button) and then the options appear for AA, Carplay, and adding a front-mounted camera (which I didn't do.)
Cons

Cost to Maintain

Routine maintenance is very expensive but necessary to ensure reliability. Strive for a square (not staggered) wheel setup. Square means you can rotate the tires properly. Staggered means side to side only, cutting your tire warranty in half. Factory wheels are prone to cracks - consider upgrading to aftermarket wheels.

Interior Space

rear seats are a designed for legless midgets unless the front passengers pull the seats far forward. Best used as a shelf and use a wind screen. The trunk, however, has reasonable space with the top lowered or raised.

Technology and Entertainment

Limited to factory navigation and radio functions without upgrading to an MMI unit. Once 3G was eliminated, the factory modem and connected services became non-functional.
