Generation Overview
The 2017 Hyundai Sonata is part of this midsize sedan's sixth generation of production (2011-2019). In 2014, the Sonata saw a mid-generation refresh, with upgrades that included revised styling, a revamped standard engine, and extra insulation for a quieter ride. The 2014 model year also saw the addition of available features, including a ventilated driver's seat, blind-spot monitoring, and dual touchscreens. These same features were carried through to the 2017 model year.
2017 Hyundai Sonata Engine Options
Every 2017 Sonata is equipped with front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission, with the exception of the Eco trim (which instead receives a seven-speed transmission).
The standard engine on the Base, SE, Sport, and Limited trims is a 2.4L four-cylinder at 185 hp. Stepping up to either of the 2.0 trims (the Sport 2.0T or the Limited 2.0T) gets you a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder good for 245 hp.
Finally, the Eco trim is outfitted with a turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder engine at 178 hp.
2017 Hyundai Sonata Interior
With a 16.3-cubic-foot trunk and standard 60/40-split-folding seats, the 2017 Sonata has plenty of room to spare for your passengers and everyday gear. Some used 2017 Sonata models may also be equipped with a hands-free trunk, which can come in handy when your arms are full.
