Great Styling at a Reasonable Price.

2013 Hyundai Sonata C P - Norwalk, CA 05/20/2015

The styling of the car is amazing, decent gas mileage, comfortable interior. The sport edition styling looks just as good as cars twice its price on the road. I currently own the 2006 V6 Sonata and both cars are fun to drive. I hope the 2013 holds up as well as my 2006 Sonata has.

Great car!

2015 Hyundai Sonata N Palmer - Olathe, KS 11/27/2016

I love my 2015 Hyundai Sonata Limited Sport 2.0! The car is good looking and has so many great features. I love the drive mode switch from ECO to Sport. It is wonderful to switch to Sport when I need a quick burst (like merging into traffic). I also love the many electronic features (navigation system, connection to iPhone, air conditioned seats). Gas mileage is not great, but not horrible either. A wonderful car and I'm so glad I decided to purchase.

Good price to value combo

2012 Hyundai Sonata Eric W - Birmingham, AL 08/07/2015

I was looking for a sedan with lots of room plus fuel economy and this seemed to be the best choice. After 3 months I truly believe that this was the right choice. As far as bang for the buck I don't think I could've done much better. I would like for the road noise to be a bit less but everything else is an A+.

Hyundai Sonata Overview

The Hyundai Sonata is a midsize sedan that is available in a number of different versions with several trim levels including SE, Sport, and Limited. While this vehicle was originally set apart from its competition almost exclusively because of its superior warranty coverage and lower pricing structure, later generations have also become well known for its luxurious interior. In addition to the ten-year warranty on its engine, the Hyundai Sonata also boasts excellent ratings on its crash tests.

Hyundai Sonata History

Since 1985, the Hyundai Sonata has been produced as a midsize sedan by its Korean maker. With its second generation, in 1988, the car started being imported to other countries, including the United States. It was built on a Mitsubishi Galant platform and featured engineering reminiscent of Mitsubishi. Since its debut, the Hyundai Sonata has undergone seven generations and experienced exceptional, though sometimes spotty, growth in the United States. Some highlights of that growth include the following:

  • In 1990, there were 29,840 Hyundai Sonatas sold in the United States.
  • By 2001, that figure had jumped to 62,385 vehicles.
  • Statistics show that 213,303 Hyundai Sonatas were sold in the United States in 2015.

How It Drives

Part of a passenger's comfort level is the quietness of the cabin. The Hyundai Sonata provides a hushed and smooth ride that envelopes its occupants in a luxurious comfort superior to its class. The inevitable bumps in the road are barely registered as the Hyundai Sonata's smooth damping kicks in. Well-controlled handling and steering mean that the Hyundai Sonata is as balanced during turns as it is along the straight highway.

Used Hyundai Sonata Value

The Hyundai Sonata has significantly improved its value and features across the generations. While the first introduction of the vehicle emphasized its value, later versions also highlighted its comfort and reliability - and for good reason. Whether the Sonata is going to be a family car, a teen's first vehicle, or used to commute, drivers and passengers won't be disappointed in its gas mileage, comfort features, or reliability.

Design & Performance

The Hyundai Sonata offers a plethora of features even on its base model. These include a rear lip spoiler, 16-inch alloy wheels, and automatic headlights. Several different engines were offered, depending on the trim level chosen.

  • SE, Sport, and Limited models were offered with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine.
  • A turbocharged 2.0-liter engine was available with the Sport and Limited trims.
  • The Eco trim level offered a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine.

Powertrain & Engine

The Hyundai Sonata is a front-wheel-drive midsize car that is designed to be comfortable over the long haul. All versions, with the exception of the Eco, are mated with a six-speed automatic transmission. The standard 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine pushes out 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, with it reaching 60 mph from zero in about 8.2 seconds. The EPA estimates that this 2.4-liter engine returns an impressive 25 mpg during city driving and 36 mpg along the highway.

Body Style & Interior Comfort

The Hyundai Sonata is an ideal choice for a family car or as transportation during a commute with ample seating for either four or five adults. With comfortable seating, excellent crash ratings, and minimal road noise, the Hyundai Sonata offers a roomy interior that is ideal for long trips. Other interior features that make this vehicle stand out from its competition include:

  • Satellite radio
  • Bluetooth with audio streaming
  • Rearview camera
  • Cloth upholstery
  • Android Auto
  • USB port
  • AM/FM/XM/HD/CD radio paired with a seven-inch touchscreen
  • Hyundai BlueLink with destination search via Google, an in-vehicle app for car care and remote start
