Customer Review Summary for 2016 Hyundai Sonata

2016 Hyundai Sonata R Jones - Atlanta, Georgia 09/30/2018

Stable, quiet, economical, digital, flawless

2016 Hyundai Sonata Happy Customer - Horseheads, NY 07/10/2016

Best auto ever owned. Feature set is fantastic, digital control of temperature, speed control, gas gauge, mileage calculation, range before empty, etc. is wonderful and really accurate (and I constantly cross calibrate scientifically). Acceleration and braking what they should be. Stable, not a race car. Super quiet and comfortable. Spouse and I love long car trips. The inside is calming and, though it gives you lots of input, not obtrusive. Have not had a single product defect in first 11 months and 9000 miles of ownership.

Enjoying my new Sonata

2016 Hyundai Sonata Chris Smallwood - West Jordan, UT 09/25/2017

Good gas mileage, comfortable to ride in, looks good.

2016 Hyundai Sonata Overview

The 2016 Hyundai Sonata is a midsized sedan, offering a quiet ride and plenty of room for passengers. It's a car that is easy to deal with, simple to drive, and fun, making it a favorite of among owners. There are a lot of standard features on this car for the price, and there are additional options that give you a lot of added value for the money. Additionally, the Hyundai is built solidly, so the car speaks for itself. This is a vehicle that can be enjoyed by everyone and that will last for a long time.

2016 Hyundai Sonata History

Hyundai has worked its way into the car and SUV markets over the years, and now it is one of the leading contenders. With a great reputation and a smart price point, the 2016 Hyundai Sonata is among the company's best offerings so far. Each year the Sonata has improved, but has generally been lost in the middle of the pack. The 2016 model year, though, causes the Sonata to stand out and get noticed. Drivers who choose this car can enjoy:

  • A roomy interior that is quiet and reduces road noise
  • A touchscreen and controls that are easy to use and intuitive to operate
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with smartphone integration
  • Automatic headlights and a rearview camera
  • The debut of an automatic emergency braking system on the Limited 2.0T trim level

How It Drives

Like most midsized sedans, there are some hit-and-miss aspects to the 2016 Hyundai Sonata. The biggest drawback is in some of the engine options, as the 2.4L is not well refined and the turbocharged 2.0L doesn't offer as much raw power and quick acceleration as would be expected. However, the handling of the car is quick and responsive, and the larger engine choices are great offerings that can move the car down the road easily and efficiently. The transmission is responsive, and drivers can expect the car to have a lightly sporty feel that is best enjoyed on winding roads or hilly terrain.

Used 2016 Hyundai Sonata Value

Most mid-sized sedans are very similar to one another, but the 2016 Sonata does stand out in that it holds its value very well. It has a simple but highly attractive design, and is in competition with the Honda Accord, Mazda 6, Ford Fusion, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima, all of which are very popular choices. However, the 2016 model year of the Sonata is holding its own, and with good reason. This sedan will likely keep its value well into the future, making it a good choice at a fair purchase price, whether it is purchased new or used.

Design & Performance

The design of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata is sleek and elegant, with a high-end look and six different trim levels, along with a Hybrid option. There are a large number of standard features that drivers can expect on the 2016 Sonata, along with a lot of optional choices, as well. Giving drivers choices has worked well for other car makers, and Hyundai is following their lead by making options more affordable and offering more standard features that come with all trim levels. These include:

  • The Blue Link telematics system
  • Full power accessories and heated mirrors
  • Keyless entry and ignition, and a hands-free trunk
  • A sunroof and leather upholstery
  • Engine choices with power from 178 hp to 245 hp, along with front-wheel drive and six-speed automatic transmissions

Powertrain & Engine

The 2016 Hyundai Sonata boasts several engine choices, including a 2.4L four-cylinder with 185 hp, a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 245 hp, and a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder with 178 hp. The Eco trim level can provide up to 32 mpg combined, with the other trim levels coming in at 25 mpg to 30 mpg combined, depending on the engine choice and other options.

Body Style & Interior Comfort

The inside of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata is roomy and comfortable, and the sleek body style ensures that the vehicle will get noticed. From the basic SE model all the way up through the higher trim levels, the well-designed interior and comfort is maintained. Drivers can expect:

  • A straightforward control layout that's intuitive and easy to use
  • A seven-inch touchscreen that makes interaction easier and faster
  • Well-padded seats and plenty of space for front and rear passengers
  • A generous 16.3 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk

There are still some improvements that Hyundai could make to the Sonata, but overall the 2016 model is an excellent selection for a midsize sedan that has plenty of room and driving enjoyment. With all that the 2016 Hyundai Sonata has to offer, drivers can purchase this car with confidence and enjoy it long-term.
