2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee brims with wide-ranging, go-anywhere appeal
The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee is among the top choices for a five-passenger midsize SUV, even though this model was introduced way back in 2011. Continual updates help—2019 Jeeps get Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity via a 7-inch standard touchscreen—but the Grand Cherokee's enduring appeal has a lot to do with its breadth of ability. Whether you need a daily-driving vehicle that can handle a weekend camping trip or you regularly seek out new trail adventures, the Grand Cherokee can do it all. And if you prefer your thrills at high, as opposed to slow off-road speeds, there's a pair of SRT models. One uses a mighty 475-hp V8 and the other a slightly unhinged 707-hp Hellcat V8, making for an SUV with supercar sensibilities.
The engines for the most popular models are a base 3.6-liter V6 with 295 hp, a 3.0-liter turbodiesel with 240 hp, and a 360-hp 5.7-liter gasoline V8. All drive via a standard eight-speed automatic. Trim levels and options are extensive. The Laredo kicks things off with decent standard equipment but only comes with the base engine. We suggest the Limited as the real starting point since it ups the convenience and comfort significantly for not much more money. The Trailhawk focuses on off-road ability, and it's the only Grand Cherokee, SRT models aside, with standard four-wheel drive. Heading up the range brings the Overland and Summit models, but both become generally harder to justify price-wise against rivals. You're sure to find a Grand Cherokee to suit your needs, however diverse they are.
