Transmission: Automatic Color:Silver Interior Color: Gray Average Vehicle Review: (5 reviews) The Corvette rides and drives surprisingly nicely for a sports car with this level of performance. The base model is not as powerful as the Z06 or ZR1, but has more than enough power and capability for real world street use. It is relatively easy to drive at a moderate pace, similar to any other upscale vehicle with a manual transmission. Could easily be a daily driver. But when the accelerator is pressed, it changes immediately into something much more exciting while at the same time feeling very stable and controlled.

Transmission: Automatic Color:Gray Interior Color: Red Average Vehicle Review: (5 reviews) Fantastic power and handling and even reasonable fuel mileage period, never mind extremely reasonable for this engine size and power. When cursing around 70mph on flat roads you should see high-20s to almost 30mpg. City mileage not so good, gotta be gentle with throttle but where's the fun in that? Ride will not beat you up, this would be fun car to go cross-country with. Fly out and drive it home instead of paying that transfer fee :-) About as practical as a 2 seat car can be. It will handle a kiddo *if* they are in a front-facing car seat, booster, or big enough to use normal seat belt. I've done it, and owners manual says it's ok. Hatch area is LARGE it will be easy to handle week of groceries, target run sort of shopping.

The new Corvettes are leaps and bounds nicer to use as a daily driver than previous generations. The electronically adjustable suspension does wonders at making the ride firm when you want it and reasonably smooth the rest of the time. The creature comforts and assorted gadgets are nice and mostly well thought out.

Popular Years

2005-2013 (6th Generation Chevrolet Corvette)

2013 saw Chevrolet introduce the 427 convertible, a combination of the best features from its popular Z06 and ZR1 versions. It represented the last car created for Chevrolet’s sixth generation of cars. The 7.0L engine could go from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, a great car for those who love to be constantly on the go. Look for a model featuring the 60th anniversary package design with an Artic White exterior and Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior. If you really want to make your neighbor’s jaws drop, find one with Pearl Silver blue full-length racing stripes.

2013 Features and Specs

  • Redesigned body style
  • Engine with lightweight titanium intake
  • Available OnStar® Navigation
  • Bluetooth® technology

2014-2018 (7th Generation Chevrolet Corvette)

The seventh generation of Corvettes kicked off in 2014, when Chevrolet brought the Corvette Stingray back to its lineup. Options included a leather-wrapped gear shift and suede microfiber seat inserts. The Grand Touring model revamped the seats in a new lightweight magnesium frame to maximize comfort and support for drivers. It will be hard to turn off the engine and climb out of your car after enjoying the luxurious feel of the redesign.

2015 continued the evolution of the Corvette Stingray by making it available in two new paint colors, Lime Rock Green Metallic and Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic, something for those who like to stand out as they drive along the beach. Chevrolet also upgraded the gear box to an 8-speed unit and made mobile connection possible by adding 4G LTE broadband technology. You can access available Wi-Fi hotspots inside your vehicle and receive real-time traffic updates and other live information.1

Never one to rest on their success, Chevrolet made three new design packages available for the Stingray 3LT, Z06 3LZ Coupe and Corvette models in 2016. Imagine sitting back on suede seats or coming across a Stingray with a High Wing Spoiler. The Corvette Z06 and Stingray also added new technology like curb view front parking camera and a power cinching latch for the trunk. These are cars meant for people who love to make a statement!

2017 saw Chevrolet reintroduce the Chevrolet Grand Sport with a 7th Generation update. Modifications to the look included adding a wider track fence, fender coves and vents and wheels designed specifically for the Grand Sport. Chevrolet powered the new look with a V8 engine with 460 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. You also get better oil distribution thanks to a dry-sump oil system designed to pump oil from a separate reservoir.

Chevrolet made even more improvements and changes to the 2018 Corvette model. The Performance Data Recorder could now document individual wheel speeds, intake air temperature, individual suspension displacements and Yaw rates among other readings. The Corvette also received improvements in the rear-view camera by adding higher resolution to images and wider viewing angles.

2014-2018 Features and Specs

  • Upgraded V8 engine with direct injection
  • Five-position Drive Mode Selector
  • Eight-inch driver/infotainment screens
  • High-resolution color LED screens
  • Voice-recognition capabilities

1Requires data plan and compatible devices to activate.

Performance Bargain

Fantastic power and handling and even reasonable fuel mileage period, never mind extremely reasonable for this engine size and power. Pros

  • Power: 505. Do you need more? Probably not...
  • Ride and Handling: Great grip, but still a smooth ride
  • Value: Depreciated like a stone initially, fantastic for you as a buyer.

Cons

  • Weather Versatility: Don't do snow. Just don't.
  • Technology and Entertainment: Navigation System horribly outdated, just use your phone. Fine otherwise!
  • Reliability: It should be fine but get Maxcare, engine costs around $17k in parts alone. Esp earlier (2009ish) cars.

2012 Chevrolet Corvette - Fun Car

The Corvette rides and drives surprisingly nicely for a sports car with this level of performance.

Pros

  • Power: Great acceleration for getting up to speed on freeways and passing.
  • Braking: Very strong & stable braking for safety
  • Ride and Handling: Comfortable ride as well as very precise and stable turning.

Cons

  • Cost to Maintain: Will probably cost more for car wash and car wax than my other cars.
  • Technology and Entertainment: The channel change button on the steering wheel is located where my thumb occasionally changes the station when I'm turning quickly.

Probably the most fun car you'll ever drive

Incredibly fun car to drive, very comfortable, and surprisingly easy on gas. The new Corvettes are leaps and bounds nicer to use as a daily driver than previous generations. The electronically adjustable suspension does wonders at making the ride firm when you want it and reasonably smooth the rest of the time. The creature comforts and assorted gadgets are nice and mostly well thought out.

Pros

  • Power: 460hp and low weight. Not a whole lot more to say. I've driven SRT Challengers and there's no comparison, the Corvette absolutely flies and feels light on its feet.
  • Ride and Handling: Very tight handling. The electronics keep the car going where you want it even if you do something a bit overly ambitious.
  • Styling: Best looking Corvette in years in my opinion. Who knows if the sharp lines will age as gracefully as the C5 and C6, but today it's one of the most eye catching cars on the road.

Cons

  • Cabin Noise: The giant rear tires do make a lot of noise, and theres not a lot of sound deadening in an effort to keep the weight low. Its not terrible, but you quickly notice the road noise at high speeds when the stereo volume is low. There's also some wind noise coming from the B pillar area.
  • Reliability: I've had some issues with the dashboard electronics doing strange things occasionally. There have been several firmware updates available to correct most of them.
  • Cost to Maintain: The tires wear quickly and are not rotatable. The dry sump oil system holds nearly 11qts, which leads to expensive oil changes. Any sports car is going to be more expensive than average, so none of this was unexpected.
