Popular Years
2013 (Second-Generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500)
The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 represents the last model year for sale of the second-generation full-sized pickup truck that debuted back in 2007. This solid pickup truck comes available in two-door regular cab, four-door double cab and four-door crew cab configurations with a short, standard or long box. The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 also comes in several trim levels – WT, LS, LT, XFE and LTZ. The LTZ trim features its own unique dashboard.
Like prior generations of Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the second-generation model relies on the Vortec® family of V6 and V8 engines, starting with the 190 hp Vortec 4.3L V6. V8 engine options include the Vortec 4.8L and 5.3L mills, with 302 and 315 hp, respectively. An optional 6.2L V8 engine offers an estimated 10,600-lb trailering capacity when properly equipped.1 There’s also a two-mode hybrid version of the Silverado 1500.
Here are a few notable standard features that this generation offers:
- 4.8L V8 engine with 302 hp
- Automatic locking rear differential
- Rear vision camera
- Active Fuel Management (on the 5.3L V8 engine)
2014-2018 (Third-Generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500)
The third generation of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 made its debut in 2014. Like its predecessor, the third-generation model comes in three body styles – regular cab, double cab and crew cab – along with a short, standard or long truck box. The 2014 model marks the arrival of the High Country trim, slotted above the LTZ and equipped with premium features like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and power-articulating running boards. Unlike the previous generation, the 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s dashboard design is shared among all trim levels.
The third-generation Chevy Silverado 1500 has also seen its fair share of changes, including a change from the Vortec to the EcoTec® family of V6 and V8 engines and the introduction of an eight-speed automatic transmission for use on the EcoTec 6.2L V8 engine in 2015. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 also received a significant facelift for the 2016 model year, featuring a redesigned front grille, the addition of LED tail lights and the availability of the eight-speed automatic with the 5.3L V8 engine. The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 became available for sale with several minor changes, including the addition of a capless fuel filler neck and the introduction of several special edition trims, including the Redline and All Star Edition.
Notable standard features for the 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 include:
- CornerStep rear bumper
- EZ-Lift and Lower Tailgate
- LED fog lamps

Reviews for Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Getting a new car
It runs good, no major issues has came up, most places will sell you something rigged up to work for a short time. Be cafeful buying from anywhere all cars are differnet situation. But my buying experience was good.
Pros
- Value: It was less then other trucks with similar year and miles i was looking at
- Power: There is nothing like a silverado
- Reliability: Has yet to brake down or have any kind of issue.
Cons
- Fuel Economy: All trucks have bad gas mileage tho
- Technology and Entertainment: No tv for the kids on long trips but they will manage.
- Cost to Maintain: If something were to brake im sure being a truck it will cost.
Wonderful Truck, few problems that we mostly fixed
Great truck for a fairly good price. CarMax fixed most of the issues that my personal mechanic found for free with the 90 day warranty. Few dings that were missed in the initial listing of the vehicle but nothing too bad.
Pros
- Fuel Economy: Miles per gallon is amazing, get almost 26 mpg which is unheard of for a truck.
- Technology and Entertainment: Great full-screen audio/navigation system
- Ride and Handling: Handles better than most trucks i've driven, rides very smooth
Cons
- Braking: Needed new brakes about 4 months after purchasing the vehicle.
- Visibility: When it rains, inside gets very foggy and is hard to get it to go away. Could be a window seal issue.
- Seat Comfort: Found spots of mold from previous owner but was able to remove it.
Lots of problems!
So I bought this 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT truck back on Oct 26th, 2019. In February 2020, the engine was making loud ticking noises so I took it into a mechanic on the list of CarMax Warranty mechanics. The result was a new engine replacement was needed which was a total shock. After fighting with the insurance company, they finally decided to pay the cost difference to put a factory GM motor back into my truck instead of an aftermarket remanufactured motor. This whole process has been a total nightmare but I’m glad I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Buyer beware that even if you have the MaxCare extended warranty, problems like this might stuff occur.
Pros
- Styling:
- Power:
- Braking:
Cons
- Reliability:
- Fuel Economy:
- Interior Space:
